We recently had the chance to connect with Alexia Dugger-Maye and have shared our conversation below.
Alexia, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Actually allowing myself to live in my potential. I feel like we know who we are and what we are capable of but sometimes we fear what comes with it. The discipline. The commitment Maybe even the spotlight. I feel that now my life is pushing my further that direction and I am in a place where I am ready to live in it.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alexia Dugger-Maye and Lexi The Brand L.L.C. is my umbrella. I decided to brand my name once I realized I wanted to do, everything. I did not want to limit myself so I branded my name and chose the top 3 things I wanted to do; model, dance, and act, While I bring in other talents from time to time such as bartending, becoming and author and selling merchandise, those 3 things will always be my main focus. What makes my brand different is that I typically have to show up to anything involving Lexi The Brand because I am the product and require being booked. Since I have no limits I am looking forward to expanding my Brand in any way I see fit to serve others and represent the gifts God gave me to the fullest.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before I branded myself I was a frustrated student at The University of Alabama trying to find my way to happiness. While I was in college I tried out for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Hawks Dance Teams and this opened me up to a whole new world. I was unhappy because while I loved my Degree I still knew there was so much more in store for me. I wanted to find a balance in chasing my dreams while also chasing my career. I was laid off my first job post college due to Covid-19 and this is when I truly began to find myself.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that there was only place to go, and that was up. Once you are successful you can fall so far. But suffering taught me how to be humble, how to use what I have by being resourceful. It taught me persistence, how to never give up. Most importantly, it taught me fasting and praying. Truly leaning on God and identifying what season I’m in. While we can have seasons where we feel like we are losing or are content, we have to keep planting seeds because there will also be a season to reap what you’ve sewn.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I have a passion for helping people in need. I enjoy doing outreach such as feeding the homeless. I would love to do more for foster kids, children and people around the world that lack resources. I also would love to go to Law School to be what I have come across as a “Street Lawyer”. Helping inmates that have been falsely accused of crimes or harshly sentenced. I want to be committed to helping people.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I will never regret staying true to myself. We live in a world where society wants you to adapt to “the norm’. I don’t want to adapt. I want to remain different. I want to remain Alexia.
