An Inspired Chat with Anna Mendelson of Suburbs

Anna Mendelson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Anna, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Who are you learning from right now?
Right now, I’m learning from people who are where I want to be — especially those who’ve built careers in sales and startups. I was recently on a podcast where I had the chance to ask industry experts questions about their journeys, and that experience really stuck with me. I love learning from people who’ve already done what I’m working toward — hearing their stories, advice, and even their mistakes helps me grow faster and stay focused on where I’m headed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Anna Mendelson, a sales professional passionate about tech, startups, and growth. I’ve worked with over 10 startups through consulting and project management, and I love being in environments where things move fast and creativity meets execution. I’ve also built my own brand, which taught me how to take initiative, connect with people, and turn ideas into results.

Right now, I’m focused on growing my career in tech sales — I’m excited about where the industry is heading and the impact technology has on how businesses scale and communicate. I’m passionate about learning, working with inspiring teams, and building a career that blends strategy, relationships, and innovation.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when I created my first blog in 7th grade. I started writing about things that mattered to me, not expecting anyone to really read them — but when people began reaching out to say my stories resonated with them, it completely changed how I saw myself. It was the first time I realized that my words and ideas could have an impact, and that feeling has stuck with me ever since. It’s what drives me today — using communication to connect, influence, and inspire

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of doing things differently from the “standard path” held me back for a long time. I used to worry that if I didn’t follow the traditional route — like staying in school for four years or aiming for a big corporate job — I’d fall behind. But over time, I’ve learned to trust my instincts and define success on my own terms. Graduating college a year early and pursuing opportunities at startups instead of the typical Big 4 route have taught me that the best decisions often come from listening to yourself, even when it’s uncomfortable.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would probably say that what matters most to me is giving 100% to the things I care about. Whether it’s a friendship, a hobby, or my work, I always want to go above and beyond. I don’t like doing anything halfway — if I commit to something, I’m fully invested. I think that’s what drives me both personally and professionally — putting my whole heart into the people and projects that matter to me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I don’t really believe businesses “fail.” To me, a business only fails if you walk away having gained nothing from it. Every venture — whether it lasts a year or a decade — gives you experience, perspective, and growth. Even if it doesn’t end the way you planned, it can still open doors, teach you how to think differently, and connect you with the right people. I think we put too much emphasis on outcomes and not enough on what we learn through the process. Success isn’t always about profit — sometimes it’s just about progress.
