An Inspired Chat with Ashley Smith of Central California

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ashley Smith. Check out our conversation below.

Ashley, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I’m fully self-employed and work from home, but I still try to get up and around at a decent hour! I open all the windows, make a cup of coffee, and check my emails. Any sticker orders I receive overnight will be reviewed and processed, and any that require digital proofs before production will be taken care of first on my to-do list.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Ashley, owner and operator of Spooky Stickers. I’m a sticker manufacturing service for fellow artists and small business owners, and offer high quality stickers with no minimum order quantity. To those who are looking to start out in selling merchandise of their artwork or want to test out the popularity of a new design at markets and conventions, this is a really unique selling point! Most other sticker manufacturers require a minimum order of stickers per design, often racking up costs they didn’t intend to spend and are left with an abundance of stock on their shelves. Having the keen eye of a fellow artist when creating cut files and proofs also gives my customers peace of mind, as I have high standards that I hold my products to.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My fiance, Ryan! We have known each other since 7th grade, and he was always drawn to my artistic abilities and independence. Not only is he a wonderful confidant in many of my day-to-day business decisions, but he encourages my growth and dreams of expansion.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It’s not going to turn out exactly as we hoped, but you’re still going to be blown away at how much we’ve accomplished.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! Spooky Stickers is just one facet of my business, I also have my own art business that I run full time, and that puts me in convention spaces and on YouTube often. Between my weekly vlogs and being the literal face behind my booth, I can’t help but be anything other than my true self!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
My family would tell you I’ve never been one who could be told what to do, so I fully believe I’m doing what I was born to do! I’ve been creative my whole life, and having the great fortune to be able to be creative for a living in some capacity, and answering only to myself and my clientele, is all I could ever want!
