An Inspired Chat with Baz Francis

Baz Francis shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Baz, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
The upcoming Hallowe’en season unfolding in the streets right now. The cooler weather, the autumnal decorations and the abundance of horror movies around at this time of year always makes me happy. I happily lean into the comfort and inspiration this all brings me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Baz Francis and I’m a musician who currently resides in England for most of the year when not on the road. I am a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who works as both a solo artist and with my band Magic Eight Ball.

As I continue to work on the fourth Magic Eight Ball album, I am also taking on recording and touring work elsewhere which has seen me perform in 5 different countries this year (2 of which I’d not played in before).

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
A fat, ignorant kid cocooned around values that were not his own.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
I do. It was in Finland last month by one of my best friends and most trusted humans, Veera Sydänmaanlakka. Her ability to listen to me and teach me things whilst never being judgemental allows me to listen clearly to her in return.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Any human with decency. What is true power anyway? The ability to show kindness and empathy towards others is the biggest flex of power that I can think of though.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
In a state of accomplishment, in good company, in good mental and physical health, listening to music that I adore, curled up in front of a great show on the TV, on the beach and at sunset.
