An Inspired Chat with Caitlin Walters of Richmond VA

Caitlin Walters shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Caitlin, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’d say I’m walking a path but it’s one I’ve built myself stone by stone. I’ve never followed the traditional route or relied on agencies to define my direction. Instead, I’ve used my creativity, independence, and intuition to shape my career into something that truly reflects who I am. Every project I take on is intentional, even when it seems spontaneous from the outside. I have a lot more to achieve and a lot already in the works with plans, ideas, and projects that will eventually be shown once they reach their final points. Everything is in progress, and while my path may curve and shift, it’s still mine and I’m walking it with purpose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a freelance model, creative, and entrepreneur who’s built my path through passion, dedication, and intention. My journey started with a love for expression and grew into something much deeper, a full vision built from my own creativity and direction. I’ve had the opportunity to model across a range of styles including lifestyle, fashion, boudoir, and fine art while also gaining strong experience in runway, branding, and promotional work. I’m hands-on with everything I do from creative direction and planning to managing and producing my own shoots. Modeling has become more than a job for me, it’s a form of storytelling that allows me to embody art and energy in a way that feels real and raw.

Right now, I have multiple projects in progress, upcoming fashion weeks I’ll be walking in, and a new personal brand and business I’ve been developing behind the scenes. I’m in a major building stage where everything I’ve envisioned is starting to come together. What makes my journey unique is how much of it has been self-made. Every connection, shoot, and creative direction has been something I’ve worked toward intentionally. I have a lot more to achieve and a lot I’m still building, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and the purpose that drives me forward. I also want to give a huge thank you to all the photographers, models, designers, studios, makeup artists, and hair artists I’ve had the chance to work with along the way. Every collaboration has played a part in my growth, and I’m truly grateful for everyone who has believed in my vision and shared their creativity with me.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
I would say both of my parents taught me the most about work. At a young age, I watched my mom work multiple jobs to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. At the same time, my dad was a hustler in his own ways and had a lot of smart knowledge and advice about how to make it in life. Seeing their work ethic and resilience at such a young age shaped my mindset and showed me what real dedication looks like. As I got older and my drive for what I do grew into a true passion, I found myself looking up to them even more, while also finding inspiration in others along the way. But my parents were the first people who taught me what it really means to work hard and believe in yourself.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be to never listen to the negativity or let it shape how you see yourself. You were always capable, even when you didn’t believe it. Don’t focus on the wrong things or people, because they only distract you from the good and the ones who truly bring peace and growth. Be kinder to yourself and give yourself more grace, because you’re learning and growing through everything, even when it doesn’t feel like it. As you get older, it will all start to make sense and it will be okay. Everything you once worried about will fall into place in its own time, and every challenge will help shape you into the person you were always meant to become.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I think a lot of smart people today get it wrong by overthinking the process and losing touch with authenticity. Especially in creative industries like modeling, people can get so focused on strategy, numbers, or perfection that they forget the real impact comes from connection and emotion. You can have all the knowledge and skill in the world, but if you lose that raw, genuine side of yourself, the work stops resonating. Sometimes the smartest move is trusting your instinct, taking risks, and allowing imperfection to be part of your art and growth.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in my own space creating, whether it’s shooting, planning ideas, or just reflecting on how far I’ve come. There’s something about silence, music, and being in my own world that lets everything make sense for a moment. I also feel that peace in my free time, when I’m out adventuring, painting, watching movies, trying new things, or just spending time with friends and my partner. It’s those little moments that remind me to slow down and appreciate what’s around me. Peace for me isn’t about escaping life, it’s about feeling grounded in who I am and what I’m doing, even when things are uncertain.
