We recently had the chance to connect with Cesar Gutierrez and have shared our conversation below.
Cesar, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, it’s acting with integrity because it reflects how aligned I am with my values and the way I move through life, which essentially builds the image people will associate with me and defines the kind of person I am.
From business perspective, integrity is developed within the skills and behavior we show consistently, and it’s reflected in the performance and impact we have in an organization and our peers. If by any means a job relationship is finished, integrity will keep the doors open for another time.
Now, in a personal scenario, I think that at the end of the day, we are leaving a mark in this world regardless of the size, and I think everyone has the choice to be consistent in the way they act and relate to others, building the memories from which people will remember us.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
In the professional field, I have over 11 years of experience as a Software Engineer and during 2024, I started a role as Resource Manager, having both roles in parallel for now.
I’m currently developing web-based and cloud connected solutions in a project from the travel industry, and I’m managing a group of 4 developers, which puts my organization and time management skills to the test to cover both responsibilities.
Aside from my technological duties, I’m an Irish dancer representing Mexico in Adult Championships since 2022.
My biggest achievement to date is winning the Southern Region (USA) Adult Championship in 2024, making me both the first Mexican and the first male dancer getting the 1st place.
International opportunities are limited for adult dancers in this discipline, but I have competed in the USA, Canada, UK and Ireland.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The biggest transformation for me was navigating through the COVID pandemic, because it had a huge impact in my personal life and the way I connect with people.
There’s nothing in life that can be achieved on your own, because at some point, there’s input and/or guidance from someone else that leads to the result you are aiming for and achieving something loses all meaning if there’s no one there to celebrate the success with you reach the finish line.
That said, while there’s a lot we can’t control in our lives, we can certainly work on the person we want to be and equally important, define the kind of bonds we want to build with our loved ones.
Overall, we must treat everyone with respect and be open to lend a hand for others in need, because that reflects the humanity we must strive for.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Life is not just about the good moments, but the resilience we build in the hard times. It can be from an injury, a failure, a period of grief, you name it, but those kinds of situations have something important in common: they show us the strength that sometimes, we neglect to recognize until we are there.
As a dancer, it’s painful to suffer an injury, because it slows down my progress but also, gives me a chance to be compassionate with my body and adjust my training for the better.
As a software professional, not accomplishing a project release feels bad because I tend to do my best at work to make it happen, but it shows me where I need to improve or where I can align my efforts in a smarter way.
As a person, losing someone you love it’s the most painful thing we can experience as human beings, but it’ll reveal how much a person means to us and how we can keep them alive through the memories and honoring what they left on us.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I honestly appreciate my friends’ input around my happiness and well-being, because while it is not their responsibility, they are concerned because they care about me.
I think we should aspire to have group of friends who can be happy for our success, share a good advice to be better and even confront us when we are doing something wrong.
Sometimes is not about what is said but how it is shared, and as long as you are not diminishing me with your comments, I’m open to receive feedback and I appreciate a lot when people take the time to not just share something but also explains me how I can do it.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
More than a story, I want to be remembered about how passionate I was, because that’s a highlight in my personality.
My values and traits will speak from themselves, but passion is the key from all of them, because it embodies the commitment, discipline and attitude that I have towards life.
I like to achieve my goals but also, I’m a huge fan of being present for the people I care about, because it’s the fuel that keeps me going.
Sharing the good stuff will definitely set roots to overcome bad times.
