We’re looking forward to introducing you to Charlotte Martin . Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Charlotte , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up around 7:30 AM every day. Take care of the animals spend some time with God and then I dive into my work, which is music all day long 24 seven. Generally in the mornings, I try to get the admin stuff done so once I go in the studio, I can focus only on the music.. I used to work out in the mornings, but it’s been better for me to do it at night
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a classically trained opera, singer who studied opera for 17 years before making the jump to move to Los Angeles 20 years ago after college to land a record deal. I moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of getting into the rock pot business which I did and signed my first Major label deal to RCA records. Over the years, I’ve had several deals toward the world and actually had an amazing career and then eight years ago. I decided I wanted to pay it forward and give back because I’ve used my operatic training in my pop career so I opened my music school, which is called support living artist music school. Train music in my own vocal method, piano method and songwriting method.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I opened for Michael W. Smith when I was 12 years old in front of 10,000 people
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Music and Jesus. I’ve wrestled with my Faith over the years and I’ve been resentful of my own career because I thought things should’ve gone a certain way but looking back over my life God and Art were the things that were there for me and continue to be there for me I do what I can to help people and leave the rest up to him.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Being a good mom and helping other musicians achieve their goal goals
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
That I didn’t music because of fame and fortune. Being a professional artist generally means you’re a working artist and I never chased pain. I chased excellence and connection. Music is learned and it is also a language and I am grateful that I understand that language and I’ve mastered it after 45 years of singing, all genres, composing, touring and producing. I love the process and I understand the language so it is my honor and privilege to train musicians around the world to become a proficient and in love with music as I am when words fail music is there.
