We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chrissy Goobache. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Chrissy , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Well, I just got a new pup. His name is Theodore “Teddy” Wells. He rules my life right now, so my first 90 minutes and all of my minutes are dedicated to him. He wakes me up extremely early because he is hungry and thirsty. If it’s not him waking me up then it’s somebody in the kitchen waking me up because I live with morning people. Im not a morning person at all so when I first wake up I’m like the grinch but after those 90 minutes you can basically call me St. Nicholas.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Ariyon Wells p.k.a Chrissy Goobache, and I am a multidisciplinary artist. I specialize in a plethora of artistic mediums and disciplines. Most recently I have graduated from MICA Open Studies and my medium is Oil painting, but I have photography, graphic design and so much more that I specialize in. I also have a professional background in the Entertainment Industry, being a publisher with ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) and also the C.F.O of a recording company founded by myself and my mother.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother and my great-grandfathers work ethic is and was unmatched. Entrepreneurship runs in my bloodline, but it was the leadership and guidance of my predecessors that really molded my tenacity and ambition. My great-grandfather owned his own cab and service station in the 50’s-70’s. He also was an army veteran. He traveled to Washington, DC from Sumpter, SC during the great migration; in hopes of creating a better life for his children. He taught me literature, business acumen, survival tactics and overall life skills. Not to mention that he was blind, but just because he had no eyes does not mean he lacked anything. His brain was the wisest of 1 million men and Im grateful to have had the opportunity to know him.
My mother has always been smart and kind. Her personality, her gift for connecting people and her talents is what makes her an impeccable business woman. She owned an image consulting business for 20 years and I worked for her for 10. During that time I worked for her and even before I would watch her devote all her time to working day and night. She never got restless or tired and she never complained. Even after working in the fashion and beauty industry for 30 years, she went back to school and got her degree in entertainment business, is in route to becoming an entertainment attorney; while also being an author and inventor. Her innovation, creativity and dedication to success is why I admire her the most. I have had two of the best examples of business owners showing me what hard work looks like and the benefits of that work. I am truly blessed and privileged.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I quit every other day, but the provocative pursuit that the Lord has placed in my heart won’t allow me to give up. I have a wealth of knowledge that the Lord has placed inside of me and it would be detestable and displeasing to him if I kept all my gifts to myself. So, when I want to give up I think about pleasing the Lord and being obedient to his instructions and that’s what helps me to keep pushing forward.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe that if you didn’t have money or anything tangible to contribute to someone’s life then you had no purpose. That was completely wrong and I see now that Im older this way of thinking came from conditioning. It also came from poverty and developing a poverty mindset. I was institutionalized and became a product of my environment.
I know now that the most impactful things and meaningful things you can contribute to a persons life are rarely ever tangible. It can be a compliment, encouraging words, your time, your support, a hug, a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, it can be significant advice, resources, a meal, acceptance, liberation; etc. All of these things are free and a lot more long-lasting than money. Money comes and goes but impact is forever.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when Im alone, with my family, painting, praying and reading the Bible. Im generally a peaceful person, so there is rarely a time when Im not at peace. Im grateful for that.
