We recently had the chance to connect with David Andrew Jaffe and have shared our conversation below.
David Andrew, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been leveraging AI to increase my knowledge in exactly the way I like to. I get simple, brief explanations of things I’m curious about. Then I expand on details unclear to me. And the process is a never-ending world of discovery that I do daily, and absolutely love.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a thinker… whether I like it or not. I’m always contemplating the world. Always seeking new and interesting ways to perceive things and do things. My books are 100% me. They are an accumulation of my experiences over the years, with all the successes and failures, all the joy and all the bruises. I am me. Nothing else.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I was much more hopeful. I saw life as a search for perfection. The perfect community. The perfect home. The perfect relationship. I no longer see this as realistic. Perfection isn’t realistic. It’s sad, but that doesn’t change the truth of the matter. Life isn’t about seeking perfection. It’s simply about every day being a better version of yourself than your were the day before.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Never.
It’s the one thing I can’t do. Ever.
I can say, “Today sucked and I didn’t make it happen.”
I can be realistic and accept that I have a setback or two.
But I almost must say, “Tomorrow’s a new day.” Brush the dust off my shoulders. And keep on fighting!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Health and fitness.
It’s my bread and butter. I might not always do everything right, but it’s always the goal. My life is surrounded by attempts to better myself, and everyone in my life is more than well aware.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What will you regret not doing?
I’m not so young anymore. But one of my bucket list items is to master a martial art. I would like to feel competent and confident in just about any situation, and never fear for my safety or for the safety of those I aim to protect.
I have by no means given up on that goal.
But I do regret not starting much earlier.
