An Inspired Chat with Dee Khasandi

We recently had the chance to connect with Dee Khasandi and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dee, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Music. Music has always been a form of therapy to me. No matter the day, time, or mood, I am guaranteed to find a song or a good playlist that brings me back to myself again.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dee Khasandi. I am a dreamer, lover, go-getter, free-spirited and outgoing. I love picking up hobbies every year as I am always up for a good challenge. I have gotten pretty good at tennis since picking it up last year and now working on playing the piano. I am obsessed with automobiles and I am a pilot in-training. I am imperfectly perfect and I try to look at everything in the world from a jovial, optimistic, and realist lens. I

have also created a brand for myself and it has been a labor of love. I own a social club called Excellence in Motion, where elegance meets connection. Being an immigrant and someone that has constantly moved around throughout the years, I can admit that it became hard to find my place in the world. EIM Social Club has finally become my home. This social club means a lot to me because it has been the outcome of my life and my story. It is a place where connection, belonging, and camaraderie are formed and maintained.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My friendship with my best friend, Michelle. She is someone I met by chance and has become one of the most important people in my life. She has helped me see myself through a different lens. I grew up as the only kid with a single parent and often times I’ve had to solve my own problems and never asked for help. Michelle, however, quickly became my chosen family. A sister. She has been an encouraging light, constantly reminding me that I don’t have to go through things alone, and can somehow detect a shifted mood from a slight change of tone. This has made me more aware of my emotions and feelings and a constant reminder that I can always talk to her. I have learnt that I am never alone when she’s around. She’s made me a stronger person with less burden to bear. And reminded that just because I carry it well, doesn’t mean it’s heavy. We always have each other.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That when you’re down, there’s only one way to go. Sometimes when you get to success quickly or rather born into it, you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone. It’s when you have to start from scratch that you start to value all that you have/achieve on your way up.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Hard work, resilience, and the value of good friendship. The results of these three things are the reason why a lot of us keep going and never give up.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Probably going to work. As much as I know what I do makes a difference, it’s the thought of my next decade being defined by a clock that puts me off. I would also probably take out loans (laughing but very serious), to fund my traveling and visit all the countries in the world. By the end of the decade, I’d be satisfied with a life well-lived.
