We recently had the chance to connect with Deonica Mckeel and have shared our conversation below.
Deonica, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day in my life consist of A LOT of different task. If you were not aware I am a mother and school has started for the year. I start my day off with getting my daughter ready for school then myself. I’ve recently made the decision to further my education so I now attend class in the day. School takes up the first half of my day then I make my way to work and I work the evening shift to maintain my full time hours. Once I clock out of work its already time for bed, I make my way home and get myself ready to do it all over again the next day. So my day looks like School, work then home. Nothing super exciting but it will all pay off in the future. I do this 5 days a week.. Saturdays I work an 8 hour shift then Sunday is my only off day and I usually spend it relaxing or spend time with my loved ones.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Deonica Mckeel and I am the host of ” Let’s talk about it podcast” I also do media work in my free time when duty calls. I do all my recording and editing myself and I am also self taught. I find joy in doing this work and being able to help others with my services and also with some of the topics Id talk about. I like to spread a positive message and bring an authentic approach to my episodes that I share. I have recently taken a break this year just to better myself and clear my mind. I want to get back on track with my life and I also want to re-brand my podcast. I’m still working on the in’s and out’s of things but soon I will come back even better. One message that I always share is that in life its okay to give yourself grace and to also move at your own pace.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child I was very soft spoken, timid and afraid to speak my mind and just be myself. I never thought that I would have the confidence or strength to break out of it. As I grew older into an adult I realized that being that way didn’t cause me anything but hurt and shame. As an adult I finally grew tired of being walked over and used like a rug and started to speak my mind and express my true feelings. I am glad that I no longer believe that I wouldn’t be able to speak for myself or voice my opinions to others. Gaining confidence in myself was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. It makes me feel strong in a sense especially to stand up for myself and what I believe in.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me that ANYTHING is possible .. No matter what resources you have. You can work with what you got to get what you want or need out of this life. Suffering has helped me grow my relationship with God and made my faith even stronger. God always makes a way for you no matter what situation you are in. He makes what seems impossible VERY possible. In days that I would have considered my most successful times I was happy and felt good but I had the same feelings in days that I was suffering,. your situation should not dictate the way you feel.. I’ve become very grateful for my hardest days because they have shown me that I will still be okay at the end of the day and we will always make a way out of our hardest times and become even stronger from it.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
That GOD IS REAL ..
I’ll leave it at that.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I know that everything that I am managing is in order. All things that I put my time, effort , emotion into. When I know that my family is good, my bills are paid and all that I’m working towards is in good shape.
