An Inspired Chat with Destiny Pullings of DMV

We recently had the chance to connect with Destiny Pullings and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is busy but full of joy! I’m a mom to two little ones—a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son—and on top of that, I’m running my own business full time. My days are packed with adventures, laughter, and so much love.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Destiny Pullings. I’m a wife, mom, and entrepreneur, and I’m the proud founder of Destiny’s Pops. From a young age, I was drawn to creativity and entrepreneurship—I started my business at just 12 years old, turning my love for baking into something much bigger than myself. Today, Destiny’s Pops is a full-service bakery that offers everything from cake pops and cake jars to cupcakes, cakes, and more, all crafted with love and attention to detail.

What makes Destiny’s Pops unique isn’t just our desserts, it’s our purpose. Our bakery is built on the idea that sweet treats can be a platform for something greater. We’re committed to giving back to our community and using our brand to make a positive impact. Whether it’s through charity partnerships, special events, or simply spreading joy through our baked goods, we believe business can be both delicious and meaningful.

Outside of the bakery, I’m a wife and a mom to two little ones, a vibrant 3-year-old daughter and a curious 1-year-old son so my days are always full, often a balancing act between family life, business, and everything in between. I’m passionate about all things girlie from fashion and travel to baking and faith and I try to infuse that sense of joy, creativity, and love into everything I do, both personally and professionally.

Right now, I’m focused on growing Destiny’s Pops even further, expanding our offerings, and continuing to create experiences that leave people smiling not just from the sweetness of our desserts, but from the heart behind them.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work is my incredible mother. From the age of 5, I was practically glued to her side, watching her juggle life with an inspiring mix of determination and grace. She was a single mother raising two children, attending college, and running a successful mortgage company, all at the same time. I remember sitting in her office, watching her take calls, organize paperwork, and make big decisions, all while never missing a moment with us.

She would often give me small tasks—simple things like sorting files, making copies, or helping with little errands. Seeing her navigate challenges, celebrate wins, and never give up, even on the toughest days, left a lasting imprint on me. Those early experiences didn’t just teach me how to work, they showed me how to dream, lead, and persevere, shaping me into the entrepreneur and mom I am today. Her example taught me that it’s possible to chase your ambitions while nurturing your family, and that lesson is the foundation of everything I do with Destiny’s Pops.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there have definitely been moments when I almost gave up. Entrepreneurship looks beautiful from the outside, but there were seasons where it felt like everything was happening at once. Between being a new mom, managing the demands of a growing business, and trying to keep up with life, there were times when the pressure felt overwhelming. I remember late nights in the kitchen, exhausted, questioning if I could really juggle it all. There were moments when orders fell through, finances got tight, or things didn’t go as planned, and I wondered if maybe it was a sign to step back.

But every time I got close to giving up, something reminded me why I started, whether it was a returning client who loved my work, a message from someone inspired by my journey, or simply looking at my children and wanting to show them what perseverance looks like. I realized that Destiny’s Pops wasn’t just a business; it was part of my purpose.

Those challenging moments actually shaped me the most. They forced me to grow, to get organized, to trust myself more, and to keep pushing even when it wasn’t easy. Today, I’m grateful I didn’t quit, because every hurdle ended up becoming part of the story that makes my brand stronger and more meaningful.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, absolutely the public version of me is the real me. I’ve always believed in showing up authentically in everything I do. Whether I’m running my business, sharing moments of my life, or interacting with my community, I try to be true to who I am. I think it’s important for people to see the real person behind the brand, because you never know whose life you may touch or inspire just by being yourself. Authenticity is part of my purpose, and I hope that by showing up as my full, genuine self, others feel encouraged to do the same.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Definitely our cake pops! They’ve become such a staple in the lives of so many of our customers. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of being part of countless milestones, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, baby showers, and so much more. It’s not just about the desserts themselves; it’s about the memories and celebrations they help create. I think our customers would miss that sense of joy, connection, and tradition that comes with every treat from Destiny’s Pops.
