We recently had the chance to connect with Destiny Rose Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Destiny Rose, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
While running AZThriftsoul, I do also work a side job as a hostess at a restaurant! It’s actually quite lovely because I get to go to work around noon and come home in the evening and sew my heart out! I am an early bird 100% so waking up early and drinking some coffee while I plan some designs is the most relaxing feeling to me. Theres some days where I do have to do double shifts so in between, I would sit at one of the tables and plan! When I’m home, I love to put on YouTube or a movie in the background and work on my designs or clients orders. Also can’t forget my breaks to cuddle my dogs!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Destiny Rose Lopez and I am the owner of AZThriftsoul! I created my brand to represent that inner craftiness we all carry but in a sustainable way! Millions of clothes get thrown away or tossed everyday and being able to create art with those items is something AZThriftsoul strives for. Giving a new life to these items! First starting as a brand when I was young, I knew that AZthriftsoul was going to include everyone and encourage positivity, confidence and self discovery. Over the years I got more into sewing and began to create jackets showing my love and appreciation for Arizona state! Which would become my best seller! I truly appreciate everyone and all the things that contribute to AZThriftsoul growth I can’t wait to see how much it continues to grow. Everything we do and make is done with love!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Growing up, I felt very self conscious about who I was, the clothes I wore, the passionate feelings I had. It grew into self hatred and doubt about my future. It sounds really sad but it is essential to the character development. Despite these feelings, my wonderful parents always pushed me to become the best version of myself! They always encouraged me to do more and really get into my art and creativity and I can’t thank them enough. My mother pushed me through fashion school and learning how to overcome my fears and my dad taught me how to pursue my dreams. They are the ones who saw my potential before I could.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Kind of going back to the last response. I felt all these different emotions growing up not knowing how to handle these things. But the number one biggest fear I have and even honestly sometimes creeps into my life currently is the fear of judgement. It can feel impossible to get over it but I certainly have made tons of progress over the years. This feeling has caused me to procrastinate with tons of things in my life. Over the years as I started to get more comfortable with who I am I started to go full force with my dream and passions and let go most of that fear and when I do I feel myself going back, I like to take a moment to self reflect.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! I present myself the most authentically I can! I don’t believe in showing myself one way online and being totally different in person. I want my clients and customers to know that I actually do care about what I do and the things I’m creating. No need for the false promises especially because it wouldn’t represent who AZThriftsoul is.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Yes! I would honestly say so! Creating this brand took time and care and i feel like the more I put into it, the more it’s going to make an impact and I honestly can’t wait! I look forward to the days where I can walk into my thrift store and set it up for the day! This dream of mine is going to grow into something so beautiful and bright.
