Farhaan Hussain shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Farhaan, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, one of the things that brings me the most joy outside of work is exploring new cafés. I love finding cozy spots with a vintage vibe and great coffee, places that feel like they were made for reading or editing content. My wife and I do this at least once a week, hunting for hidden gems both in the city and out in the countryside.
I’ve also become pretty active on Google Maps, currently leveling up as a reviewer, almost at Level 7. I take photos on my phone, edit them on the spot, and write thoughtful reviews about each place. Some spots are off the beaten path, so I even bring my drone along to capture the scenery and get some cinematic shots.
It’s been such a fun way to combine my love for coffee, storytelling, and photography, and it’s always an adventure before we’ve even had our first sip.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Farhaan. I work full-time for the state and outside of that, I run my own creative brand as a professional filmmaker, photographer, drone operator, and editor. I love capturing authentic stories whether it’s a travel adventure, a local event, or a cinematic project for a brand.
What makes my work unique is the way I blend storytelling with visuals, often combining drone footage with cinematic techniques to bring moments to life. Right now, I’m working on travel documentaries, creative campaigns, and social content that highlight culture and human experiences, all while balancing my full-time job and creative projects.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is with my wife. She’s the logical counterbalance to my creative chaos always helping me think through ideas, set up gear, film behind-the-scenes shots, and even give honest feedback when my “brilliant” concepts are borderline crazy. She’s been my biggest cheerleader, helping me believe in myself as a photographer, filmmaker, and drone operator, while also being my on set assistant and creative collaborator. Honestly, she’s the reason I can chase sunrise shots, plan complex drone shots, or pull off ambitious video projects without losing my mind or my gear.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me lessons that success never could—patience, resilience, and hunger. As I learned from Pumping Iron, “the wolf climbing the hill is hungrier than the one on top of it.” It reminds me that if you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done. Every challenge forces you to grow, adapt, and push beyond what feels comfortable, shaping the drive and resourcefulness that success alone can’t teach.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Mostly, yes. I’m naturally introverted and pretty humble, so what people see—someone calm, thoughtful, and observant—is genuinely who I am. I’m not the loudest in the room, and I don’t try to be. I tend to listen more than I speak, and I like connecting with people in a grounded, authentic way.
The only difference is that the “public” me is just a slightly more polished version—still me, just with a little extra intention behind how I show up. But at my core, what you see is what you get.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in the quiet pockets of life usually at a cozy café, out camping, or anywhere surrounded by nature. There’s something grounding about the mix of good coffee, soft ambience, and a space where I can read or edit without distraction. And when I’m outdoors, especially camping or exploring open landscapes, the stillness resets me. Those are the moments where everything slows down just enough for me to breathe deeper, think clearer, and feel genuinely present.
