Gillian , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have been called to have multiple streams of income. I am an artist as well as a Recreation management professional who teaches both American Mah Jongg and Canasta.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am multidisciplinary artist who creates, funky fun characters; Afro Centric; floral and abstract art; public art; functional art, as well as I am Recreation Management professional who teaches both American Mah Jongg and Canasta. I have a trademarked company “Kennedy Wright Designs, LLC”. I delve is all kinds of art media, from paper to fabric collages and quilts, to functional repurposed furniture art. My company’s name is “Kennedy Wright Designs” and it has a series of trademarked names… Dafty Duds, Faces, Floral Treats, Patterns and Faces & Floral Treats. I am a 2024 Cultural Council for Palm Beach County Artist Innovation Fellowship recipient and is presently exhibiting in a group exhibition at the Cultural Council in Lake Worth Beach Florida from July 11 to August 29, 2025. I am the creator of West Palm Beach’s first community quilt “Heart of West Palm Beach” which is displayed in the City’s head office in downtown West Palm Beach.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment I stepped through the door and resigned from my 11 1/2 year old City job, to work independently for myself changed and shaped my whole world as it exists today. I realized that the whole world was my creative playground, and I was equipped to do anything I set my heart and mind to do.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Gillian, JUST DO IT!!! keep following your creative path and do not stop, never say never because you never know where you can go in this world.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me. I love to create, explore, and inspire people. I enjoy a good laugh and to make others feel comfortable in difficult social settings. I like to encourage people to realize that you can do anything you set your mind to, just focus and work at it one bite at a time.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am in my studio creating and standing by the ocean in the early morning listening to the waves.
