An Inspired Chat with Gloria Johnson of Midtown

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gloria Johnson . Check out our conversation below.

Gloria , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was yesterday at a Halloween event with my daughter and boyfriend. We were walking through an amazing display of carved pumpkins-characters, faces, and even a hilarious setup of a “man pumpkin” lifting weights.
My daughter was so excited and grabbed my hand, telling me to stand in front of it and “be a strong lady pumpkin!” Her spontaneous enthusiasm and how funny the idea was made me burst out laughing. In that moment, watching her pure joy and sharing that silly, perfect moment with the two people I love most, I felt so happy

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gloria Johnson, and I am a Stylist, Editor, and Fashion Director based in New York. With over two decades in the fashion industry, my passion began at a remarkably early age. I even found a childhood journal where, at six years old, I declared my dream of becoming a designer.
While my career path shifted, that lifelong commitment to fashion has driven me. I’ve cultivated a broad skillset, working as a Fashion Illustrator, Makeup Artist, Hairstylist, and Creative Director for various publications.
Most recently, I was honored to be named the new Fashion Director for Deeds Magazine, and I continue to work as a sought-after Celebrity Stylist.
I am truly honored to mar
life doing what I love.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My Grandfather had this wonderful way of always being present. It didn’t matter what he was working on; he would pause and take a genuine interest in my life— in my work, my projects, and even my earliest, biggest career dreams.
His joy in learning about my aspirations was infectious and made me feel that anything was achievable.
He saw something truly big for me, a successful future that I hadn’t yet been able to fully visualize for myself.
His belief helped build my own confidence. I’m forever grateful for the faith he showed in me, and I hope I’m making him proud as he watches from above.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there are definitely moments of doubt. As a creative, the work behind the scenes is often invisible, and sometimes you feel taken for granted. The real struggle comes from the industry’s politics and maneuvering.
Because I am committed to integrity and refuse to compromise on my ethical standards, l often find myself misunderstood or working against the grain.
There are moments when I wonder, “Is this battle worth the effort?”
However, that doubt is quickly resolved when I look at my purpose. I know that the most lasting and meaningful changes can only be made from the inside.
My commitment to my values is the very thing that It all worth it

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely hundred percent I am 1000% organically authentically my full self.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say that I was a person of exceptional honor and character who genuinely cared about the well-being of others.
I want to be remembered as someone who was authentically kind, honest, and caring-that my commitment to those values was constant, and that my friendship and my word carried real weight.
Finally, I hope they speak about the profound importance I placed on my family and my team, and how that focus allowed me to contribute to creating meaningful, positive change in my community and the World
