We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jaime Fleres. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jaime, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes, I’ve been feeling an exceptional period of pride (really it’s profound joy and deep soul satisfaction) since the launch of my third book, The Author Adventure. My team and I hosted a book launch party virtually and it was truly remarkable– so many people showed up to celebrate.
I have been feeling so joyous to have worked so long and hard on developing this book and to have it be received so warmly by our community. People have been sending daily messages about how much they are loving the book, clients are making videos and sharing on social media, colleagues and mentors are sharing it with their communities, reviews are pouring in…it is all really thrilling.
As authors, we pour a tremendous amount of heart, soul, time, attention, and resource into bringing our work to the world. That moment when the world finally gets to receive it makes it all worthwhile.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jaime Fleres, author, book coach, transformational mentor, and the founder of Whale Song Creative. We help healers, entrepreneurs, leaders, change agents, and visionaries write, edit and publish transformational non-fiction books.
We believe that writing a book is a journey of personal growth and expansion, one that we are honored to companion our clients through. We have deep knowledge of many subjects in the realms of personal growth, consciousness, and spirituality, so you gain a true partner in your project through our collaborations. We offer support at every stage of the author journey, from concept development all the way into marketing. We have helped hundreds of authors bring their work into the world.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I believe that what we love naturally as a child provides the soul clues later in life that help us remember our unique gifts, joys and even purpose. I remember playing library all by myself as a child, I was so in love with books even back then! I absolutely loved being outside as a child and felt a deep kinship with the natural world. Being in nature is still so central to my wellbeing and vitality. I also loved to sing as a child – you couldn’t stop me from singing, just ask my family, I’d even sing in my sleep! As an adult, I am a sound healer. Lastly, I started writing poetry at age 13 and it was a lifeline for me. I am a poet and artist at my core.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering is such a catalyst for growth. In Earth School, contrast is one of our greatest teachers. My own challenges and crises have taught me tenacity and resilience. They have forged in me a great strength, a high level of compassion (for both myself and others), and an enduring self-trust and positive regard. I am the kind of person that has always dove headlong and wholeheartedly into my path of personal growth. I credit that path to many of the gifts and qualities I embody today. There are some things I would soften or do differently but I have no regrets – every step has been a step toward my own remembrance and my own full embodiment of the radiance of my soul.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I think I present a very authentic and aligned public self, though I also have a deep and rich private life that many people would be surprised by. My public persona is definitely in congruence with the whole of who I am, but it is not the whole picture of course. There is so much more of myself I have yet to share in any public way. I am in a chapter of my life where I am carefully considering what of my personal lived experience I want to share publicly. As a writer and leader, I think of what inspiration and wisdom I might bring through and use to support others by bringing more of myself to the proverbial party. I also think about what gifts I have within that aren’t fully shared with those I serve, and how they may want to be expressed. We are always expanding and growing (and shedding and composting) on the adventure of being human. I love that creative expression is a living, ever-changing, dynamic relationship between self and the world.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say:
Jaime loved well and lived her life wholeheartedly, with grace, integrity and depth. She was a light to many and lived in accordance with her own inner compass. Yes, she did a lot while she was alive –publishing books, building a successful company, raising a daughter she loved more than anything — and yet, if you knew her, you’d know it was her presence and the way you felt in her company that left the most lasting impression. People felt truly seen, accepted, honored and cherished by Jaime. Safe to be themselves. She held the vision of people’s most expansive and fully expressed selves. She believed in people in a way that inspired them to dare to live their dreams. She was a cycle breaker, a tenacious student of life, a passionate powerhouse, and someone who lived in accordance with her deepest convictions.
