An Inspired Chat with Janessa Neighbors

We recently had the chance to connect with Janessa Neighbors and have shared our conversation below.

Janessa, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning from me. I’m learning from the experiences that my past selves have gone through and learned from. I’m also learning the personalities of my inner child and teen, continuously reconnecting with them in various ways. My inner child being more playful and creative, wanting to love and be loved. My inner teen wanting to be seen and heard, embracing herself as a human, and navigating through various challenges. They each have their own story & just me admiring them, allows me to learn something more.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Janessa, Nessa for short and I’m the Founder, Owner of Nessa’s Safe Space. A bit about me is that I like to learn new concepts of any topic. I’m a spiritual person who’s going to go where I feel spiritually safe, heard, and seen. I also like to get creative so besides creating items for my business, I’m also writing as an expressive outlet as well as painting from time to time. I love meeting new people and creating those fun, healthy connections with others. The beach is one of my favorite places and as far as body movement, one of my favorite forms is Pilates but there are times where I’ll be listening to a good music shuffle and can’t stop myself from dancing haha

Back to my business, Nessa’s Safe Space is a virtual relationship & trauma recovery mentoring business. The artistic aesthetics of it are galaxy and celestial- themed with some earthy elements into it. It focuses on Parentified daughters who need/want to de-condition from the parenting role they were given to find their true purpose. It also focuses on those who have been abused in some way, to find things that bring them peace, happiness, things that contribute to their overall wellness. I also focus on dysfunctional dynamics and general relationships. I’m a survivor in all of these aspects and I’m on my own healing journey so I’m focusing on the wellness of those topics, guiding others on how to get back to their authentic selves.

As far as the targeted audience, I don’t discriminate haha but I do recommend we have that free consultation, just to make sure we’re the right fit! I just launched in April so currently just working on connecting with other people in ways I can.

What makes this business so different is it’s for anyone who wants to become better versions of themselves. I’m an advocate for turning those “taboo” topics as topics that can/should be talked about often, as normally as the rest. It’s a virtual safe space that can be wherever you are, which we all need that, especially during these times in society.

I’m a lover of culture, a foodie, lover of people, and I love to travel. So there’s various blogs on my website about different food and drink places to try & dine at. I love to write about my journey and what lessons I’ve learned along the way so I have a mindset blog also for those who are readers. For readers, I also have a downloadable list of books to read.

My mentoring sessions are for couples and individuals who want to have healthier relationships around them as well as having a healthier relationship with themselves. I also have a mindset mentoring session where we work on outlooks of life, inner critic, self worth, and other areas of self- improvement. Self improvement is a daily practice and it’s part of self care on all levels (mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, etc)

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My current relationship with my partner Cory is the healthiest relationship I’ve ever had/experienced. There’s love, growth, patience, and safety there. Being able to be given the space to heal then apply that healing to building the relationship as a strong and healthy one, is something that I’m grateful for.
Because of that, it gives me the space for me to see my own self worth and experience the individuality that my younger self didn’t get. All of those things make such a loving impact.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and be assertive. Also don’t be afraid to be yourself when with other people and alone. Authenticity is such a gift and a power on its own so live life on your terms.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
What my closest friend would say that matters to me is that honestly and charity are really important to me. I appreciate feedback as I call myself out on things all the time. I appreciate solutions to my dilemmas because it means that they’re looking out for me. Them giving acknowledgements of my growth on display because those are what give me a visual of how far I’ve come and where I need to go is priceless. Relationships like that are rare but needed.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope my story is that I was fearless in a lot of ways. Emotionally fearless, mentally fearless, and just someone that loved seeing other people do good for themselves. I had my moments of self-doubt but still walked past those and did my best anyways. I wasn’t afraid to speak my mind and I was not caring about what others think. I loved seeing other people win at life just as much as I do. Life can be hard at times so having those good days are what helps make that balance happen.
