Jayquan , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think that it looks like something that is so easy but all reality it’s a a lot of hard work when running anything pertaining to food concept business from maintaining permits to sourcing the fresh Groceries or even keeping up with cost leverage of items you need down to the the prep in the kitchen of the food.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Jay or ChefJay I am previous owner if golden throne catering and private dining I now am the co-owner of Geechie grubbin food truck we specialize in street style food and southern Gullah soul foods.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I think my mom probably is the person who saw it before I did clearly she noticed I was intrigued by food a lot as a kid. I would come home and watch hours of food network shows like down home with the neelys I was definitely obsessed with chef Sammy Davis and even my own grandmother would always help her in the kitchen.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When it came to the opening of the food truck I did get a little discouraged because I felt like man we keep getting hit with brick walls time and time again but I’m glad we put up the fight and kept pushing.
