Jeff Heggie shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jeff, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My mornings start at 4:00 AM. I’m a big believer that the way you start your day sets the tone for everything that follows, so I’ve built a morning routine that I protect fiercely. I head straight to the gym for a workout, which gets me going both physically and mentally. When I get home I take some time for personal development – prayer, reading, filling out my Mindset Journal, and setting my Most Important Tasks (MIT’s) for the day – my daily accountability.
This is a routine I’ve refined over the years, and it’s the reason I developed my Mindset Questions (http://www.JeffHeggie.com/mindset), the Mindset Journal, and now the implementation of The 4 Week Win Challenge (www.JeffHeggie.com/win) – to help people build success habits, create intentional routines, and have daily accountability. I feel that if you can own your morning you can own the day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jeff Heggie—an entrepreneur, author, business coach, and co-founder of The Confident Athlete Program. I help high-achievers—whether they’re entrepreneurs, athletes, or leaders—develop the mindset, strategies, and habits to reach their full potential.
I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 20 years, building and running multiple businesses, and now I combine that experience with my passion for coaching to help others create both financial and time freedom. One of the things that makes my work unique is that I’m not just teaching theory, I’ve lived it. I know what it’s like to grow a successful business, to face setbacks, and to rebuild with clarity and purpose.
Today, my focus is split between coaching entrepreneurs and athletes, and building a team in my direct sales business, an incredible health and wellness company that offers the chance for people to start a business they can run from anywhere. Through our programs like The 4 Week Win Challenge, I’m passionate about helping people create success habits, stay accountable, and take control of their future.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Without question, my wife, Tamara, has had the greatest influence on how I see myself. From the very beginning, she has given me unconditional support and believed in me. She’s been beside me through every season, celebrating the big wins, weathering the tough setbacks, and walking with me through some of the most difficult failures I’ve faced.
What’s remarkable about Tamara is that her belief isn’t tied to my success; it’s tied to who I am as a person. Even when circumstances were hard, she reminded me that those moments didn’t define me. Her encouragement kept me moving forward when it would have been easy to give up. She’s helped me see past the short-term challenges and keep my focus on what matters most – our family, our faith, our values, and the vision we share for our future.
Looking back, I realize that her steady presence and faith in me have shaped not only my confidence but also my definition of success. She’s taught me that real success isn’t just about what you achieve, it’s about who you become and the relationships you nurture along the way. I wouldn’t be who I am today without her influence, love, and belief in me.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has a way of stripping life down to what really matters, and for me, it taught lessons that success never could. When things fall apart, you quickly realize the importance of your relationships, the people who stand by you when there’s nothing to gain. Those connections become a lifeline, and they remind you that no achievement is worth much if you don’t have the right people to share it with.
It also taught me the importance of always doing your best and protecting your integrity. Success can sometimes mask mistakes or shortcuts, but failure has a way of bringing everything into the open. In those moments, you don’t want to be looking over your shoulder, hiding things you shouldn’t have done. You want the peace of mind that comes from knowing you acted with honesty, even when it was hard.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my closest friends would say that what really matters to me is faith, family, and making a positive impact in the lives of others. They know I’m deeply committed to my wife and kids, and that my relationships are at the center of everything I do.
They would say I care about growth, not just my own, but also helping others reach their full potential. Whether it’s through my business coaching, working with athletes, or working with my team helping them build their business, I’m passionate about seeing people achieve their goals and create the life they want.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
Life as an entrepreneur can be crazy. Even with good habits and solid routines, it can still be mentally and emotionally draining at times. About four months ago, I made a conscious decision to build something new into my life—a weekly two-hour block where I completely disconnect from the noise of the world.
Once a week, I step away from business, technology, and distractions to slow down, focus on my faith, and simply be present. Those two hours have become a sanctuary for me—a time to reflect, reset, and realign with what matters most. It’s amazing how that intentional pause not only brings me peace in the moment but also gives me clarity and energy for the days that follow.
