We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jennifer Fink. Check out our conversation below.
Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Card making. It’s a hobby I picked up during the pandemic, after my Mom died (from Alzheimer’s) and it’s an absolute joy to create something from paper that will put a smile on someone else’s face. I just need 100+ friends which is why I started my Etsy shop. I need to clear out my stash and maybe make a few bucks to go back into craft supplies.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
After caring for my Mom & grandma I launched the Fading Memories podcast to support fellow caregivers. With a thirst for knowledge, I interviews caregivers, experts, and those with cognitive impairment, broadening my understanding of brain health, caregiving, and lifestyle choices.
My experiences inspired me to share insights and become a trusted expert to others on a similar journey. Passionate about navigating the challenges and avoiding personal struggles, I offer support and expertise through the Fading Memories podcast, and professional speaking, fostering a community where shared wisdom can make a difference in the lives of caregivers and individuals impacted by dementia.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Becoming my Moms caregiver changed the trajectory of my life. I learned a lot about caregiving, brain health, legislative advocacy that I couldn’t stop doing. It’s not always obvious, but I know I’ve touched lives and helped make positive changes in our world.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That you have to find the answers if you don’t know them. However that may look. Picking up a book, listening to a podcast, asking someone who has been in your shoes. Sometimes you have no choice but to figure it out.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Pretty much. I joke that I’m the gal talking about Alzheimer’s disease at parties. It’s true. People ask a simple question, usually “what is the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia” and the answer generally leads to a conversation. Sometimes that conversation is about their journey as a caregiver, their concern for a loved one or their desire to maintain their own brain health as they age.
Rarely do I end up talking about dogs, my other passion!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That she made a difference. My first career was being a portrait photographer, creating beautiful memories for families. Now I help them navigate really hard times with family. I hope I help them create new memories despite dementia.
