An Inspired Chat with JOSHUA SINCLAIR of Des Moines, Iowa

We recently had the chance to connect with JOSHUA SINCLAIR and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning JOSHUA, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
When I’m not on tour I’m usually up by 7am. Work out. Respond to emails. Do promo graphics, short vids, etc for upcoming shows. Drink coffee.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
If Eric Church, Ed Sheeran, & The Black Keys all had a baby together, their musical bundle-of-joy would be JOSHUA SINCLAIR. Using only a guitar, a microphone, & a loop pedal, SINCLAIR performs originals off his past 17 albums as well as putting his own spin on cover tunes. Playing over 200+ shows yearly throughout the Midwest and around the country. Currently working on a new full-length studio album, set for release in early 2026.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My Dad. He worked for 36 years as a tire builder and he taught me the value of hard work. This mentality has helped me immensely over the years as an independent artist…no one’s gonna do it for you. I’ve learned how to edit photos, videos, built a home recording studio, etc.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Quite a few times I’ve been playing shows or on tour and I’ve connected with the audience through my original songs…seeing their reaction, whether it be laughing, crying, cheering, etc, it’s shown me they are engaged in the moment.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
One of the coolest things I’ve taken with me over the years is being present in the moment. Whether it be at shows, on tour, in different cities, with fans, etc – not just showing up and leaving but actually being present with the people and the places I come in contact with. The phrase, “I’m gonna be where I’m at” by Ice Cube in the movie All About The Benjamins, has stuck with me for over 20 years because it encompasses that philosophy.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
He did what he loved and he shared it with the world through his music.
