We recently had the chance to connect with Kelsey Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Kelsey, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think what’s often misunderstood about my photography business is that it’s so much more than showing up with a camera and taking pictures. I provide a full experience for my clients — creating comfort, confidence, and memories they can cherish. Even when I offer free or discounted shoots, it’s not because my work lacks value, but because I’m building my brand, serving my community, and giving people opportunities they may not always have.
What many don’t see are the ins and outs that come with running a real business — paying for business insurance, hiring a tax professional and accountant, keeping up with licenses, equipment costs, marketing, editing time, client communication, and ongoing education. Photography is my passion, but it’s also a full business with responsibilities that go far beyond the photos themselves.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kelsey Davis, and I am the owner and lead creative behind Kelsey Davis Photo Co. My business originally started as Kelsey Davis Photography, but as of November 2025, it has officially transitioned into Kelsey Davis Photo Co. LLC — a step that reflects both my growth and the expanding vision I have for my brand.
I specialize in creating warm, meaningful, and memorable photography experiences. What makes my brand unique is that I don’t just take photos — I focus on making every client feel seen, valued, and genuinely comfortable. Whether it’s a wedding, family session, or creative portrait, my goal is to capture emotion in a way that feels natural, personal, and timeless.
Behind the scenes, I operate a fully structured business with the same care and professionalism clients see in my work. That includes everything from working with an accountant and tax professional to maintaining business insurance, investing in equipment, studying my craft, and managing the daily logistics that help keep the experience smooth and stress-free for every client.
Right now, I’m continuing to build the Kelsey Davis Photo Co. brand, expand my offerings, and elevate the experience I provide — all while staying true to my mission of creating beautiful moments for real people.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Who saw me clearly before I could see myself? First and foremost, God. He gave me the vision, the gift, and the strength long before I ever believed I was capable of walking in my purpose. Every step I’ve taken in my business has been guided by His favor and grace.
And on earth, it was my Nana. When I first started and hardly anyone understood or supported my passion, she was the one who pushed me, encouraged me, and reminded me that I had a gift and even though I didn’t see it, one day it would pay off. She spoke life into my dreams at a time when I wasn’t sure they could grow. Her belief in me helped carry me to where I am today.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain and started using it as power the moment I accepted that some of the people who claimed to love me never had any intention of truly supporting me. Instead of community, it started feeling like competition — and that realization hurt. But it also opened my eyes. It pushed me to stop shrinking myself for the comfort of others and to start growing for myself. That shift turned my pain into fuel, and it’s the reason I stand stronger, clearer, and more focused today.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
A belief I once held onto, but now see was naive, was assuming that the people closest to me would naturally cheer me on simply because they said they cared. I used to equate love with support, community, and genuine encouragement. Over time, I realized that some people are comfortable with you only as long as you don’t outgrow them — and when you do, the dynamic shifts from connection to quiet competition. It was a tough lesson, but an important one. Now I understand that real support is proven through actions, not relationships or labels.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, my role, and everything I own, what would remain is my faith, my resilience, and my heart for people. Titles and possessions can fall away, but the character God has built in me. The strength to rise after being overlooked, the compassion to serve others, and the determination to grow no matter who supports me — that’s what stays. What remains is the woman I’ve become through every challenge, every lesson, and every moment I chose to keep going.
