An Inspired Chat with Kim Ewing

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kim Ewing. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Kim, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I was playing a new Senior living facility that I had never played before and the staff did not know me. As I walked in the door with my equipment loaded up and pushing it in on a cart one of the staff looked at me and said”Oh are you moving in?”….😂… she was serious 😂….The irony of that did not hit me till after that show because I was just concentrating on doing the gig. But on the way home I realized I am 66 years old and that was a very relevant question. LOL, it made me laugh.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Kim Ewing and I’m a singer-songwriter guitarist. I’ve been doing this probably a little over 35 years off and on. It took me awhile to learn just to be true to myself and do what makes me unique or what makes me, me.
I play different wineries and restaurants and sometimes listening rooms. My style of music is such that you can have conversation over it and still enjoy the music at the same time.
I think my voice is unique as it is not your average female voice, it’s soft yet strong.
It’s very important to me to include in my set lists positive music. I do play some edgy stuff but the majority of my music is basically positive with a soft rock country type feel. The clientele at the venues really enjoy my originals.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
That’s probably my sister. She may not even be aware of that but it is true. We are very much alike and she makes me feel normal and loved and accepted. Musically, if I didn’t feel confident about something that I wanted to try and do, if she said that I could do it then I truly believed I could and it resulted in me being fully able to do it.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It taught me that in life, and not only music but in every part of life it is not possible to feel the full joy and satisfaction that comes from what you feel success is without first knowing what suffering and pain feel like.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe in God I believe that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of our past and of the sins that we were going to do. I believe in the Trinity the father son and the holy Spirit and I believe that Jesus is coming back again and I cannot prove that. It’s just in me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes I believe I could. A lot of that comes from being in the military and also from just having to be a survivor in life. I’m not as disciplined as I think I should be but I am very disciplined., and I’ve learned that nobody is going to motivate me but me. I believe everything we do, we should try to do with excellence as if for the Lord and not for praise from people. Also, when we help others in any way, the posture of our heart should be to do it out of genuine compassion, not expecting praise or recognition from it. That said, let me make clear that I am far from perfect…lol ..and fall short of those goals plenty lol. We are all just doing our best and just need to love one another.
