An Inspired Chat with Laisha Barroso of San Francisco

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Laisha Barroso. Check out our conversation below.

Laisha, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I recently graduated from Academy of Art University with my BFA in photography. I went through many ups and downs in my last two semesters that I was afraid I wasn’t going to graduate with the rest of my class, but I powered through and I couldn’t be more proud of myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a fashion and portrait photographer driven by a love for individuality and expression. My work focuses on capturing confidence, boldness, and the unique energy each model brings to the frame. As a creative lesbian Latina, I thrive in chaos and find inspiration in the raw, unfiltered moments that make people who they are. Through my lens, I aim to highlight authenticity, power, and the beauty of standing out.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship I have with my mother. My mom has always told my sister and I to follow our dreams. She believed in me, which made me believe in myself. She always supported my creative side, as i’m the only artist in my family. I was very interested in music growing up, so she made sure to put me in band class in school and explore that side of me. When it came to photography, she didn’t understand a career in photography at first, but she always believed in me. She could see the sparkle in my eye every time I picked up a camera.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I had the fear of not being liked. I believe this did hold me back in life when it came to relationships, friendships, and who I am as a person. I’ve learned now to be myself and do whatever makes me happy. Everybody will have their own opinion about me, but only I know who I truly am.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would like to think so, yes. Besides photography, I also create content surrounding my lifestyle in San Francisco, and I make sure to present myself as the real me.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop making excuses and go for what I want. I would work 10 times more harder to achieve my goals before my years end.
