Linda Rhyne shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Linda, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Professionally, I love spending time thinking about instruction and the systems that make it work. I can spend hours thinking about how we will plan instruction, how we can create safe environments for educators, and sit with instructional leaders while we problem-solve current challenges.
Personally, I can get lost in books. Specifically, I love to read fantasy, mystery or thriller books. I laugh and cry with characters becoming over-invested in their stories. Add a few cups of coffee and I’ll be in heaven.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Sure! I am the owner of Linda Rhyne Consulting and founding president of The Reading League North Carolina. I am an award-winning National Board Certified, LETRS & Orton-Gillingham trained educator with over 19 years of experience in education including 10+ years of experience as an instructional coach.
Linda Rhyne Consulting is an educational consulting company that strengthens cohesive literacy and coaching systems aligned to instructional priorities, ensuring every educator gets the support they need to thrive—while honoring the unique strengths, experiences, and voices of the individuals within those systems.
We facilitate sessions that assess your systems providing an in-depth look at what’s working, what’s not, and opportunities to grow. We develop clear roadmaps that align research, standards, and strategic goals while offering implementation support so leaders don’t have to do it alone. We see the plan through.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
We develop bonds with people through our shared humanity. When we take time to know the people we serve, we are better able to connect with them. In my line of work, relationships matter because education is a human profession that serves humans. With clear communication, kindness, and integrity, I build bonds with clients.
And yet, sometimes things in human relationships don’t go as planned. I will sometimes falter in my communication or follow-through, or I may misunderstand those I serve through assumptions. When this happens, I can best restore those relationships with honesty. Offering an apology and sharing that I wish things had gone differently allows me to have a restorative conversation. This may take time, but it begins with a conversation during which I take accountability for my actions.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Owning a business is difficult. I’m in charge of everything and sometimes I am tired of making all of the decisions, wishing someone else would provide the roadmap and task list. During these ebbs, I have times when I feel like giving up. However, I am able to get back in flow when I’m working with my clients, connecting with other small business owners, and realizing that this is not a unique thought. We all go through times of overwhelm and challenge – what matters is what we do about it and how we grow from it.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies our industry tells itself is that strong instruction will just ‘happen’ if we hire the right people or adopt the right curriculum. We ignore the reality that systems, not just individuals, shape outcomes. When we overlook how coaches are supported, how instructional priorities are communicated, or how leaders are equipped to lead change, we end up with pockets of success instead of consistent, sustainable growth. At LRC, we help districts move beyond quick fixes by building coherent systems that align people, processes, products, and culture. Whether we’re supporting literacy alignment or instructional coaching, our approach ensures the work isn’t just compliant, it’s connected, intentional, and built to last.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Family is everything. As a mom of two elementary-aged children, I would stop anything that kept me from being present in their lives. I would travel to see extended family for visits, plan get-aways with life-long friends, and cherish moments with the people in my life.
