We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lindsey Guerra . Check out our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
A big misconception about social media marketing is that it’s as simple as taking a photo, writing a caption & hitting post. In reality, social media marketing is a luxury service and gives your business an edge over your competitors. What looks effortless on the surface actually takes hours of research, filming, editing & other steps that no one else sees. A lot of people want to hop into social media marketing right now because it looks glamorous and easy from the outside. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some glamorous moments but it takes real dedication, real trial and error & really putting yourself out there in a big way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Lindsey! I’m the founder & CEO of Little Picnic Company and Mocha Marketing. Little Picnic is my charcuterie business, we specialize in all things luxury cheeseboards. I started in 2022 and over time I really fell in love with the marketing side of business. I am still running Little Picnic Co. (my cheesy dream come true) but I’ve recently launched Mocha Marketing where I offer social media marketing services. I combined my obsession for coffee & my passion for marketing to create an aesthetic brand that feels warm and inviting, just like your favorite coffee shop.
Something unique about me is that I started as a business owner before becoming a marketer. This gives me a unique perspective that others don’t have. I know firsthand what it’s like to be on that side— what business owners really want, what they don’t have time for & how they operate. I think it makes my clients feel comfortable & confident about working with me.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I’ll never forget in second grade I started a charity called The Furry Friends Project. I’ve always been so in love with animals & I wanted to help them at an early age. I remember making flyers & pitching my idea to my school principal. (Clearly, a marketer in the making) She let me go onto the announcements where they filmed me talking about The Furry Friends Project as it got broadcasted to every classroom in the school. Before you know it, I had bins full of collars, leashes, toys, beds, you name it. I had a magnet on the side of my parents car & a website where people could go donate and learn more. I still remember loading the trunk & going to an animal shelter to donate all of the items. That was definitely a moment of feeling powerful, like I could do anything I set my mind to.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
That is an emotional question for me. I think I would say, “You’re going to go through things that will dim your light, but just wait because your sparkle never leaves you”.
As a child I was very loud, creative, outgoing & fearless. I wasn’t afraid of anyone’s judgement, I’d sing at the top of my lungs, audition for any part of a play, and put my creativity to the test without worrying about the “what ifs”.
Later on, I walked through chapters of my life that tried to take my confidence & creativity away from me. It was an uphill battle but I was always determined to create something more for myself. I met my husband at an early age & we made the choice to break generational curses and build a peaceful, loving life for ourselves. Now, I feel like that little girl again, walking around with all of the confidence in the world & finding clarity in all of the lessons I learn along the way.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think a huge lie that the social media world tells itself is that going viral is the ultimate goal. I always tell my clients, the number one thing I don’t promise is virality. Is it cool if your content goes viral? For sure! But that is not the cure to whatever business problems you are having. In fact, if your business has cracks in its foundation, social media marketing will only amplify those imperfections. Of course, a viral video gets your content in front of more eyes but without the strategy to back it up, you will be on track to being a one-hit wonder rather than building a steady, loyal & engaging community.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
This is easy. I feel the most at peace with my husband. We started dating at 16 & 17 years old and we are about to turn 25 & 26. We secretly eloped in 2023 and had the wedding of our dreams in 2024 and we still are on cloud 9 about it. In fact, calling him my “husband” still feels like the coolest thing ever. One thing about Anjel, is that he was always there, ready to cheer and be my #1 fan since the day I met him. It didn’t matter if I was performing at a football game or speaking at a business event, I always knew I could look into the crowd and see him.
Since we started dating so young we had a lot of doubt thrown our way, that we were just kids and wouldn’t make it past the puppy love phase. Then we got older & would hear the “just wait until after the honeymoon phase” comments. Now, we laugh because even after almost 9 years together, everyday still feels like the “honeymoon phase”. I love you babe!
