We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lua de Morais. Check out our conversation below.
Lua, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Last week my daughter Sharon Mor (24) released her first album in Santiago (Chile) called “Noches de Insomnio”, & I had the blessing to travel and experience the event. She put on an amazing show, and along with her team, really made that night the most memorable it could be! I was so proud to see my girl as a woman and shine the way she did. She sang, danced and really got the crowd engaged!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Brazilian artist (actress, songwriter, singer, writer and producer). I grew up surrounded by different cultures (living in communities with people from all over the world), shaping a lifelong devotion to music and storytelling. I feel that my mission as an artist is to inspire dreamers like myself to follow their passions and never give up.
I was raised in Argentina and then lived half of my life in Chile, where I had my two children (Sharon and Lian) and started a career as a performing artist. Today I live in Los Angeles CA, where I pursue music, acting and produce a YouTube original kids educational show called “Playbug,” (along with my daughter and son) that teaches languages through music, storytelling and fun. We are currently looking for sponsors to be able to take this project to the next level and reach a wider audience worldwide. We started three years ago from cero & have reached 50K subscribers to date! We hope YouTube invites us to their kids platform “YouTube Kids” soon, that way we can reach our target audience which are preschoolers, their parents and educators! This has been my hearts greatest desire since starting this project with the goal to better the education of children with less opportunities, especially in places like South America where public schools don’t teach children a second language from an early age, making it so hard for them to have equal opportunities as adults! It’s my way of giving back to what I have been given in life. (If you are a brand, a business owner or want to help me with this, please reach out: [email protected] / Website: www.PlayBug kids.com
I also put together here in Los Angeles, a fierce all female band entitled “Lua & The Brunettes”, where I get to share my original music and poetry in a dynamic and interactive performance. (IG: @luaandthebrunettes)
In 2022, I released a trilingual poetry book called “NUA” (available on Amazon / IG: @nuavozdelsilencio), and am currently presenting a one woman show about my life, having been born and raised in an American cult. This show is called “Wings, It’s legal to dream” and it will be presented on the 14th of this month -November-, at The Zula Den. (More info on my website: www.luademorais.com)
On May of this year (2025) I released my album #10 called “Big Blue Sky”, (produced by Latin Grammy Award winner Jonathan Maia) which I am very proud of, and am at the moment preparing the release of my next album for 2026, which for now, it is called “Senses”. Thanks to my upbringing, my music is in different languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese), and I love to mix genres, rhythms, and at times incorporate my poetry my songs.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As mentioned before, having been born and raised in a cult (“The Children of God”), most of the things I was taught and firmly believed in as a child, I don’t believe in anymore. For example that “we” were the “chosen” ones, and had the mission to “save” the world, etc. We were brainwashed to believe we were somehow “superior” and had some “truth” or knowledge that others didn’t, & that made us somehow “special”.
I do believe every person is special, yet not because of what we are told to believe in, or how we are raised, but of how we value & respect ourselves. We are more powerful than we even know, yet, that doesn’t make us better than others.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Music, writing and creating has saved me not only as a child, but to this very day. I’ve experienced times of deep loneliness and the feeling of abandonment, not being seen, heard, etc., and putting all those feelings on paper & then in a song, has given me a way of release, escape and finding inner peace. Talking to others always helps as well. Today I talk to my therapist & closest friends. Back then, I couldn’t talk to anyone who could take my feelings as “doubts” or “threats” putting me in a place of being a “bad influence” to others…I’m so relieved those days are over.
So, I’d definitely say creating music & watching movies & especially the musicals we were allowed to watch…those allowed me to dream and use some of my imagination…any instance of expression I had throughout my life, has made any pain a lot more bearable, (and that hasn’t changed to this very day. Art is still my safe place and what makes everything feel better.)
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. I feel like an open book and am fearless. Sometimes, people I love tell me not to expose myself so much, -of course they want to protect me-, yet, I honestly do not fear others opinions, and have nothing to lose at this point.
I think if more people dared to be and show the world who they really are, we’d be a more empathetic, untied, sensitive and kind society.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they talk about my drive and passion to give love, hope, positivity & to make a difference in this planet. Whether it was through my music, poetry, shows, scripts, “PlayBug”, or simply because of my actions. I want to leave something in this planet that will never be forgotten and will inspire generations to come. I know I can do it because I’ve desired this ever since I can remember having a mind of my own, and even before I allowed myself to make my own decisions.
I’m so blessed I can do this today and hope everyone gets a chance to watch my One Woman Show entitled: “WINGS: it’s Legal to Dream” that I will be presenting live every other month starting November 14th at The Zula Den.
