An Inspired Chat with Melina Waldrop

Melina Waldrop shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Melina, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am definatly a wanderer. I would say I walk an open path—guided by spirit, grounded in ancestral wisdom, and always evolving. I’m not religious, but deeply spiritual, and I believe there are many paths that lead to the light. My work as a psychic medium, intuitive tarot reader, reiki practitioner, and hoodoo rootworker is informed by diverse traditions and practices. I follow where I’m led—sometimes called, sometimes pulled—but always with the intention of healing, clarity, and connection. Whether clearing energy, delivering messages from spirit, or helping clients reclaim their power, my path is rooted in service and guided by intuition.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Melina Waldrop, and I was born with the gift of psychic mediumship—a connection to spirit that has shaped my life and work from an early age. With over 25 years of experience reading tarot, I now blend intuitive insight with a range of tools including oracle cards, Lenormand, Kipper, and traditional playing cards. I’m a certified hoodoo rootworker and reiki practitioner, offering not only readings, but also magical consultations, spiritual workings, fixed candles, honey jars, distance reiki sessions, and house clearings. My work is grounded in tradition but guided by spirit, helping others navigate the unseen, reclaim their power, and find clarity through mystical yet deeply personal practices.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that profoundly shaped how I see the world happened when I was just 11 years old. In 1993, my mother, stepfather, and sister were tragically killed in a drunk driving accident. My brother and I were also in the car but survived. What makes this even more significant for me spiritually is that I had dreamed of my mother’s passing a full year before it happened. At the scene, I clearly heard my stepfather calling for help—yet the medics told me that would have been impossible, as he had passed instantly. That moment shattered my world, but it also awakened something deep within me. I had always known I was different, that I had abilities—but this experience cracked everything wide open. It showed me, without a doubt, that my connection to the spirit world was real. Since then, I’ve seen life through a very different lens—one that embraces mystery, honors intuition, and seeks to help others through the unseen.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Beyond the unimaginable loss of my mother, stepfather, and sister in a tragic accident when I was just 11, one of the defining wounds in my life was surviving an abusive relationship. That experience taught me how to reclaim my voice, honor my worth, and love myself in a way I hadn’t before. It also showed me the profound impact of kindness—how deeply words can wound, and how powerfully they can heal. My healing has been a long, ongoing journey, one that’s deepened through helping other women navigate their own experiences with domestic violence. These wounds, while never completely erased, have been transformed—alchemized—into compassion and love that I now pour into my work. Because of what I’ve lived through, I’m able to connect with my clients on a deeper level. Many see me not just as a reader, but as a psychic friend. My readings are grounded in empathy, free of judgment, and offered from a place of genuine care. Healing doesn’t always mean forgetting—but it can mean using your pain to help light the way for others.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my closest friends would say that what matters most to me is family—especially my children, who always come first. Loyalty, integrity, and showing up for the people I love are at the core of who I am. I believe deeply in being dependable and true to my word. They’d also tell you I’m passionate about justice and equality—whether it’s women’s rights, animal rights, or human rights. As an Aquarius, that humanitarian spirit runs strong in me. I care about creating a better world, not just in theory, but through how I live and support those around me every day.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m absolutely doing what I was born to do—not what I was told to do. I’ve always had a bit of a wild, rebellious streak, especially when it comes to authority, which is why I built my own woman-owned business rooted in mysticism and empowerment. I was raised Southern Baptist and followed the rules throughout my childhood, but I had to keep my interests in the paranormal and my intuitive gifts hidden. For a long time, I tried to fit into the mold of what was expected of me—working “normal” jobs, trying to blend in—but none of it ever felt right. I always found myself drawn back to the path of entrepreneurship and spiritual work.

My business, BlackCatMoon13, had a name before it had a form. I chose it years ago, not yet realizing the depth of what it would come to mean. Today, it represents not just spooky and witchy content, but also a mission: to empower women—especially those who’ve felt silenced, marginalized, or are trying to find the strength to leave abusive situations. My work is for everyone, but my heart is especially with those who need a reminder of their power. I believe, like Elizabeth Gilbert says, that our purpose is what we’re endlessly curious about—and as Glennon Doyle puts it, also what breaks our hearts. By that definition, I know this is exactly what I was born to do.
