Michael, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My career in photography. Building a business isn’t easy, people do not see the work that goes into it. The late nights, early mornings, doing it all on your own from building a website, social media platforms, advertising platforms, sales, talking and networking with vendors and potential clients. The list can go on, but I wouldn’t change any of it. Hard work pays off

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Michael Martin Jr, I’ am the owner of MMartin Productions. I’ am a wedding photographer and cinematographer. I’ am originally from the East Coast South Jersey, but now live in NorCali in Folsom, Ca. I specialize in weddings, destination weddings, elopements, engagement sessions, couple sessions, family sessions and much more.
I just don’t do these sessions here in California, I travel all over the country and outside of the country as well. Being blessed with amazing clients on the East Coast I still travel back and forth. I have been photographer for 21 years and all gas no brakes here, I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I love capturing the love between two lovers, the love of a family or new family , and the new business that needs branding or a corporation that needs some new and fresh for a ad or their website. I go where ever the business takes me, as I have been building here in Cali, I still love opening up new doors in different places around the world, adventuring and capturing loved ones journeys through life.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My father and my grandfather, they both have and had a big impact in my life and still do to this day.
Seeing how both of them work so hard, day in and day out. My father taught me that no one is coming knocking at your door to hand you anything so I need to work hard, go out network, build something that I really want in life. When I turned 20 my father told me to spend 90% of my time on my business so that way later in life you see how hard you worked to get were you are at. From that day I built a six figure business and always learning, always building and creating new ways to keep my business to succeed more and more each day.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep going, don’t stop. I know you don’t know what this world/life will bring you but you will find yourself and you will be great

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family, Friends, passion for my business, how I hold my self to high standards. How I am a very caring and thoughtful person, always thinking of special things to do for people or gifts that mean so much to one person.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
How I was a driven, passionate, loyal person. Towards family, friends, my amazing clients, the photography world, the love for traveling and adventures, the love for the ocean and the beauty this world has to see. I want people to see myself in the work I capture for my clients or even the work I create for myself. I want them to talk about the amazing places that I have seen, traveled to, the places my business and clients have taken me. When I talk about the ocean and the beautiful world, I mean I love the water, I free dive, I fell in love with pushing for greatness and doing something hard that most people can’t do or won’t even dare to try. Feeling free underwater, seeing the beauty the ocean brings is a joy in my life. The beautiful world we have, meeting so many great people, seeing old cities, rural country sides, high mountains, the bluest waters, the history, the tasty food and drinks. So much more to see, so I plan on doing this till the day I am no longer here. This is what I want to be told about myself- Passion & Greatness
