We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mrs. Nikkita Gordon. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Nikkita, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have adopted new hobbies and interests such as picking up trash in my neighborhood, spending more time out outdoors. My favorite right now is sitting next to my fire pit during my free time. I have found these hobbies allow me to rest and align my thoughts. If i am not doing this, I am making time to spend to be with my dogs sugar and ranger. They are entertaining in the joyful way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello,
My name is Nikkita Gordon, Owner and Founder of Cute & Cocky the Brand and Holster Manufacturer. My company focuses on women’s safety in public, private spaces and home defense. What makes my brand unique is women have always had options but we get to share their options when it comes to non lethal and lethal carry options. We manufacturer women and law enforcement concealed carry designs for everyday carry of a firearm for personal protection. Women are registering more to be concealed weapon permit holders nationally. This transition includes more than just a permit; it starts with mindset and training. Cute & Cocky has uniquely positioned it share in the market through helping women through this process through charitable educational and firearm training in multiple states including Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Texas and more. We are currently working on targeting Birmingham AL as a pilot area for community based public safety seminars to reach elderly women and young women that are single or college students.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my Mother, Sabrina Gordon has shaped how I see myself in many different ways. I see myself as someone who has determination and perseverance. The journey of life and business has been filled with highs and lows, however my patience and mental fortitude has allowed me to be adaptable in diverse environments. These experiences have allowed me to set the standard for my own value, while continuing to be a light for others. Safety has always been a high priority in my family, and I chose to implement in my life daily.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering when times were hard has showed me to lean into my relationship with God. Everyone won’t see the vision, with God on my side if I pursued opportunities i believe were divinely for me, most things have worked in my favor. There are seasons that my failure encouraged me to strive for more success. Success, financial increases and fame has thus far been temporary, so I share it with the people that believed in me. I rarely show when I am suffering, I normally become reserve to get my life back aligned with my goals after experiencing adversity. I always tell myself ” Never Be Compromised, You’re Ms. Cute & Cocky”, this reminds me I have others looking up to me for inspiration and I can’t stop now.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I have a life Mantra ” Treat all people, at all times, from all cultures, religious background and age with respect. I start with trust and reciprocation of respect to guide my moral compass in life. I do not hesitate to be considerate in a world of selfishness. People can either be a guide or distraction, but the best people are sometimes overlooked. When I look in the mirror, I see a Young African American woman from Albany, GA, who has achieved a lot and that is truly humble and respectful. Statistics may be against this narrative that black women can’t be a Holster Company Owner with a patented holster apparel line for women and Law enforcement. But that is my truth. I respect everyone and I believe the individuals that have similar cultural values do not put this limitation on me because they don’t know me. They share a common interest of being Pro 2A. I protect my morals to ensure I treat individuals nicely and respect their cultural differences.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
My legacy is currently being built for the family I have and the family I create. I have two small businesses. I am the first in my family to start a Salon & Holster Manufacturing business. EAST ALBANY SALON and Cute & Cocky
The Brands I have trademarked are Intellectual Property that can be assigned to my family for future returns. My hard work to become the first African Amercian woman owned holster manufacturer in the USA has been accomplished, I am a registered Inventor with the USPTO. Yes, I have more work ahead of me, but when I look back at my accomplishments, I have been written into history already.
First Generation Graduate with BBA in Business Management and Marketing with Certification in Advertising.
Cute & Cocky Tours 2021- 25*
National Shooting Sports Heritage Hunting Grant Recipent 2 Years for encouraging all women firearm owners to get training and get outdoors. Estimated 400k in reach nationally.
Alot of people don’t understand the price of building something completely different in a niche market, while trying to have the company acquired. It seems too difficult. I have never let the disbelief or lack of support towards my legacy stop me. It’s not for everyone to understand the path to building my legacy.
