An Inspired Chat with Peter Adelaja of Lagos Nigeria

We recently had the chance to connect with Peter Adelaja and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Peter , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
It how I’m working on several ideas in different mediums and discipline, but everything is connected to my central goal and philosophy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Peter Olaide Adelaja, my brand name is Peter Bezalel, I’m a multi disciplinary artist working across visual and performance arts mediums and I consider myself as art personified.
My brand centers around the concept of chaos and balance this is deeply etched in the core of my day to day life and belief system. I have a understanding that our existence is built on chaos and our souls are designed to constantly navigate the chaos through balance. Chaos is what I say has led me into multiple disciples and expressions, balance is how I navigate these multi disciplinary spaces.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I was in SS1 when my art teacher Mr Aguda acknowledged my creative ability and capabilities and made me captain of his class, this was a time I had just repeated the class and struggling academically. This act really strengthen my belief in myself as an artist.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I realized I wasn’t lazy but dyslexic.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That an artist should be known for one thing. That’s an artist should only focus on one medium, one style or one character.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
Not doing everything I have the ability to do, not exploring every idea of creative endeavors, not being totally honest with myself.
