We recently had the chance to connect with Rachelle Carson and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Rachelle, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Right now, what brings me the most joy outside of work are my two little fur babies—Lucy, my playful 10yr old morkie who thinks she’s a baby, and Sophie, my sweet little lady, mini golden doodle. No matter if I’ve been gone for hours or just ten minutes, they greet me with the same overwhelming excitement and love. They always want to be right by my side, reminding me every day that there truly is no love like the unconditional love of a dog.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rachelle Carson, and I’m the founder of LILY + MIEL. I started my skincare company out of a passion for creating products that are gentle on the skin yet deliver visible results—without the use of harsh ingredients. I love working with natural oils, botanicals, and clean, nourishing formulas that not only care for the skin but also uplift the senses.
My mission is to continuously grow and refine both my brand and myself, always striving to create something meaningful and lasting that I can be proud of. I’m incredibly proud of the products we’ve developed so far and deeply grateful for the amazing feedback we’ve received from our customers.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My grandmother was one of the biggest influences in my life and someone I always looked up to. She was one of the hardest working people I’ve ever known and passed that work ethic on to me. Strong-willed, witty, and resilient, she showed me what it means to face hardships head on and come out stronger on the other side. I sadly lost her recently, but one of the last things she said to me was to never put myself down in front of others—a simple but powerful reminder that has stayed with me. Throughout my life, she shared little pieces of wisdom like that, shaping me into the person I am today.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were countless moments when I wanted to give up. Starting a business from the ground up is anything but easy—it’s a constant uphill climb filled with challenges and doubts. From endless hours of late-night research to designing, filing paperwork, organizing logistics, creating marketing strategies, and running meetings, I poured every ounce of myself into building this dream. For the most part, I’ve been a one-woman show, which is both empowering and exhausting.
But along the way, I learned an invaluable truth: no one builds something great completely alone. As much as independence fuels determination, growth also requires collaboration, trust, and the ability to lean on others. Every company will face seasons of uncertainty, times where you feel lost or question the path forward. Yet, it’s in those moments that resilience is forged. And when you keep your eyes on the vision, the reward—seeing your hard work take shape and touch the lives of others—makes every obstacle worth it.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Owning a company isn’t just about creating products or building a brand; it’s about walking in integrity, treating people with kindness, and using what I’ve been entrusted with to make a positive impact on others.
I protect the value of faith at all costs because it keeps me grounded. It reminds me that success isn’t measured only in profits, but in how I serve, uplift, and care for people along the way. To me, being a good business owner means being a good person first and striving every day to lead with compassion, humility, and purpose.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in nature, out on the water, walking in the woods, or simply just sitting outside taking in the beauty of my surroundings. There’s something about being in nature that instantly grounds me and fills me with gratitude. I feel my most creative self emerging in these times.
