An Inspired Chat with Rey Grandoit of Boston, MA

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rey Grandoit. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Rey, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I lose track of time when I’m creating — whether it’s writing lyrics, building a new idea, or speaking life into others. That’s where I find myself again. In those moments, I’m not thinking about the past or the pain — I’m fully present, channeling something higher. Music and storytelling have always been my therapy, my way of turning energy into purpose. When I’m locked in creatively, it feels like time pauses and my soul remembers who I am — not what I’ve been through, but what I’m becoming. That space of creation is where Own Your Inspiration lives — where pain turns to power, and vision turns to truth.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rey Grandoit, also known as Rey Grand — I’m a para-athlete, entrepreneur, and recording artist driven by a mission to inspire through purpose and perseverance. My journey began through personal struggle, overcoming challenges with faith, discipline, and creativity. What started as a way to express pain and purpose through words and rhythm grew into a platform for empowerment — a space where art, mindset, and motivation meet.

Through my creative brand and movement Own Your Inspiration, I create music, books, and motivational projects that help people see that greatness starts within. My work focuses on building resilience, identity, and belief — turning limitations into power. Whether it’s a song, a talk, or a visual project, my goal is always the same: to spark transformation and self-belief in others.

What sets me apart is my authenticity — I live what I speak. I’m proud of representing strength, purpose, and creativity as someone who’s faced adversity yet continues to rise. For anyone connecting with my work, I want them to know that OYI isn’t just about me — it’s about all of us discovering the greatness already inside of us.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I used to believe I had to be perfect to be loved — that I had to earn acceptance by doing everything right and never showing weakness. Growing up, I carried that mindset into adulthood, always pushing myself to prove my worth. But life — and especially my healing journey — taught me that love and value don’t come from perfection; they come from authenticity. I learned that it’s okay to be human, to feel, to fail, and to grow at your own pace. Now, I know my power comes from being real, not flawless. That shift changed everything — it allowed me to create, connect, and live with more freedom and truth than ever before.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
Yes — I remember the first time my therapist truly listened to me. It wasn’t just about hearing my words; it was the way she created space for me to breathe, to be honest without judgment. For the first time, I felt seen — not as someone trying to be strong or hold it all together, but as a person simply trying to heal. That moment changed me. It showed me the power of being heard and understood, and it helped me start rebuilding trust — not just in others, but in myself. That experience reminded me that listening is healing, and it’s something I now try to give back through my music, my message, and the Own Your Inspiration movement.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe in God and the power of faith — even though it’s something I can’t physically prove. I’ve experienced life in ways that have tested me, pushed me to my limits, and shown me the unseen forces guiding me. Faith, to me, is knowing there’s a purpose behind the struggles and a plan beyond what I can see. It’s trusting in something bigger than myself, even when the evidence isn’t tangible. That belief shapes my mindset, my music, and my life — it gives me strength when nothing else seems certain and keeps me moving forward with purpose and hope.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was someone who turned pain into purpose — that I used my story to help others believe in their own strength. I want them to remember that I lived with faith, resilience, and love, and that I never stopped pushing for growth — no matter the odds. If my journey inspires even one person to rise after falling, to believe in themselves when the world doubts them, then I’ve done my job. I want the story of my life to remind people that greatness isn’t about perfection or fame — it’s about impact, truth, and leaving behind light from God (Jesus) that continues to guide others long after you’re gone.
