An Inspired Chat with Robbie Darby

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Robbie Darby. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Robbie, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I’m currently in my off-season in Spain, so my days have a slower, more intentional rhythm. I start most mornings with a walk by the beach in Barcelona, giving myself space to recalibrate after an intense stretch of designing, producing, and showcasing my work.

This season is about restoration and inspiration – imagining new ideas, exploring the city’s art and fashion, and letting the rich culture here influence what’s next for Georgia’s Gems. Even though I’m not in full production mode, the creativity is still flowing.

It’s a quieter chapter, but one that’s helping me recharge and gather everything I’ll pour into my next collection.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Robbie Darby, and I’m the designer and storyteller behind Georgia’s Gems – a luxury swimwear, resort wear, and activewear brand dedicated to empowering women through fit, artistry, and intention. I taught myself to sew after losing my mother, Georgia, as a way to heal, and that deeply personal beginning shaped everything my brand stands for: resilience, beauty, and the power of feeling at home in your body.

Every piece I create is handmade, intentional, and rooted in the belief that swimwear should celebrate individuality rather than restrict it. My collections are often inspired by elements, emotions, and movement – pulling from my background as an artist, performer, and longtime fitness professional.

What makes my work unique is the blend of storytelling and craftsmanship. I don’t just design swimsuits; I design experiences, creating pieces that help women feel confident, seen, and deeply connected to themselves.

Right now, I’m in a creative incubation period in Spain, letting this new chapter inspire the next evolution of Georgia’s Gems. The brand continues to grow through custom work, small-batch collections, and opportunities to collaborate with retreats and wellness experiences around the world.

At its core, Georgia’s Gems is a love letter – to my mother, to the women who wear my designs, and to the journey of becoming your fullest self.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mother, Georgia, saw me long before I ever understood my own strength. She recognized my creative spirit and my ability to turn emotion into art, even when I doubted myself. Losing her is what led me to teach myself to sew, and in that healing process I realized she had always known who I was becoming.

In many ways, she continues to guide me – not just in life, but in my work. Georgia’s Gems exists because she saw something in me that I wasn’t yet able to claim: resilience, artistry, and a purpose rooted in empowering others.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her, “You are allowed to take up space exactly as you are.”
Your sensitivity is a strength, your creativity is a compass, and every detour is shaping the woman you’re meant to become. Trust that your voice, your artistry, and your heart will lead you to places far beyond anything you can imagine right now.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that I value being near water – it’s where I reset, create, and feel most like myself. They’d also tell you I treasure slow, intentional mornings, the kind that allow me to breathe, reflect, and move through the world with clarity. And above all, they’d say I care deeply about quality time. It’s never about how often I see someone, but how fully we can show up for each other when we do.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I’ve come to understand that healing and creating both require spaciousness. Most people rush their way through transformation, but I’ve learned that the most meaningful shifts happen when you slow down, listen to your body, and give yourself permission to evolve at your own pace.

I also understand, on a very personal level, that beauty isn’t just something you make – it’s something you become through resilience, softness, and intention. That truth guides both my life and my work.
