Samantha Flunory shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Samantha, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, my greatest joy is my family. My husband & my children have this magical way of getting me outside, whether we’re playing games in the yard, exploring new trails, or just soaking in the beauty of nature together. They fill my days with laughter, love, and little adventures that turn into my favorite memories.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Special Education educator and advocate with a passion for helping children and families thrive. Through my brand, Seeds to Flowers, I provide tutoring, homework help, and test prep for learners of all ages. I also guide parents through the IEP process, equipping them with tools and strategies to advocate for their children and themselves. What makes my work unique is that I bring not only professional expertise, but also personal insight — as a mom to a child on the spectrum, I’ve navigated this journey from multiple perspectives: parent, student, and teacher. This lived experience allows me to connect deeply with families, offer empathy alongside solutions, and ensure every child gets the support they deserve. Beyond that, I mentor aspiring special education teachers, providing field hours and guidance to help them succeed.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe broken bonds often come from a breakdown in communication. When misunderstandings go unaddressed or feelings aren’t expressed. The best way to restore them is through honest, open, and respectful conversations that allow everyone to feel heard and understood.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
A fear that held me back was the fear of being different, especially when stepping outside my comfort zone or familiar spaces. I would wonder what people thought of me, if I was doing too much, or if I needed to change my hair or clothes to fit in. Over time, I’ve learned to bring my authentic self into every role and every room I walk into. Now, I’m unapologetically me, confident and professional, no matter where I am.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural value I protect at all costs is hard work. Growing up with Guyanese and Jamaican roots, hard work means giving it your all. Nothing less than your full potential! It’s that grind, that hustle, that relentless push because at the end of the day, it’s you vs. you. Respect and faith keep me grounded, but hard work is what drives me to rise, shine, and own my journey.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes, I’ve definitely experienced getting what I wanted and realizing it didn’t satisfy me. I gained the experience of being a director of a childcare center. This was a position I really, really wanted. But even then, I found it unfulfilling. I realized it wasn’t the role itself but the leadership I had to follow that made the difference. That taught me how important the right environment is for true fulfillment. It also made me think about my brand and what I offer the people who work with me. I want everyone I work with to feel like they’re in a thriving, supportive environment . A place where they can truly grow and succeed.
