An Inspired Chat with Sean Hyman of McKinney, TX

Sean Hyman shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Sean, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
That’s when I’m scouring the overnight news and pre-market news to see what may affect the stock market open and to see if international markets were up or down overnight. Then I take a look at the near-term charts of all of our (20) stocks in our portfolio.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an Investment Newsletter writer with over 25 years of experience working with companies like Charles Schwab, Forex Capital Markets (FXCM), NewsMax, Agora, and the Sovereign Society. I’ve spoken nationally and internationally on growing your investments and have shared the stage with Steve Forbes and Jim Rogers, to name a few. On the topic of investing, I’ve been interviewed on CNBC, FOX Business, Fox News, MSNBC, BNN in Canada, Fox & Friends, Bloomberg TV, and more. I’m the author of 2 financial books and lives near Dallas, TX.

What makes me unique in the financial world is how I blend biblical principles and investing. Additionally, I teach in a really simple fashion, which demystifies the stock market for investors, particularly newer investors.

Why did I get into investing? I grew up poor and knew I had to figure out how money worked so I could flourish in my future. Once I got a great education through tenured mentors at Charles Schwab, reading a ton of books, etc., I started passing along what I’d learned to others so that it would make it an easier path for them even that what I’d had (speeding up the learning curve and explaining things in a simple fashion rather than talking like I’m talking to a room full of investment bankers).

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up poor, at one point, I figured I was destined to remain that way. Thankfully, I got better information and learned differently along the way.

The other thing is that I was viewed as not being all that smart. I got bad grades in school (but that was really due to immaturity and having a lack of interest in the topics at hand). And briefly, I was put into a resource class because my ability was in doubt. Little did I know, later on, when I took an IQ test…I tested very high. So, I was misjudged by some family and certainly the school system.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I had a conversation with one of my sons one time and I told them that they had a disadvantage that I didn’t have. They grew up not doing without anything and prospering, so they’d have to try harder to be successful. On the other hand, I grew up poor and had a fire lit under my butt to try to figure out how to get out of that financial state.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Several people:

Dr Gene Lingerfelt, a pastor in Arlington TX of Faith Christian Center, because of how he makes the gospel so real for everyday life and for how he transformed how I thought in marriage.

Keith Craft of Elevate Life Church in Frisco, TX for teaching me leadership principles that have aided my life to this day.

The gospel/Bible changed my life more than anything and so did these great ministers.

Warren Buffett: For giving me the basis/foundation of my investing philosophy of which I built upon from there.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
My hope is that they’ll say I was an honorable, upright man that not only believed in himself, but more importantly believed in those around them and showed them how great they are! My hope is that I’ve modeled a life worth replicating/following for my four kids/10 grandkids to glean from. And my hope is that my wife, Lisa, will have felt deeply loved because of our paths crossing in life.
