We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shaadie. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Shaadie, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’m avoiding controversy and self sabotage. I prefer to be know for positive endeavors and not negatives instances or moments that others may have. So the controversies that can potential come from people’s pride, egos and emotions are what I try to avoid by staying transparent, honest and open with communication of expectations.
I also try to avoid self sabotaging in my attempts to avoid those potential controversial scenarios that would cause me to act in a way out of character when it comes to the business of Shaadie rather than the person.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Im a multifaceted Bay Area entertainer, entrepreneur, and community leader from the Crestside of North Vallejo. Once upon a time I was National Leading Track and Field standout athlete and UC Berkeley track scholar, before pivoting full time towards music, media, and community outreach. I’ve co-founded my own entertainment company MAC LIFE LLC and MAC LIFE Community non-profit organization where we provide entertainment and community events for businesses, brands, underprivileged families and youth. MAC LIFE is an acronym for Minds Achieving Change Living In Forgotten Environments. Aside from being a musical entertainer, director and event coordinator I have also been an TV host and producer with a segment on ABC 4 Utah called “A Shot with Shaadie,” and is a TEDx speaker alumnus. You can say that I’m known for curating and hosting events, uplifting my community, and building a dynamic personal brand as the Swiss Army Knife of Entertainment.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom taught me the most about work through her daily actions. She was a single parent that got herself through school, work and a MBA all while still never missing a game. She would also be the team mom providing the snacks and motherly touch to the rest of the team and even the coaches as she was one of the few women in a male dominated world of high level youth sports. She taught me how to fend for myself and be responsible in the world as an only child and a young black male that’s would soon be a man. I was 13 years old in 1999 with a bank account, debit card, check book and keys to the house with a note in the morning with what I needed to do throughout the day.
Through her hard work and positive persistence and I watched her gain degrees, pledge and cross in post graduate sorority, become Dean of Cousneling Services and retire at the age of 50. All the while providing for me with anything and everything I needed to be prepared for real life, be loved tough with a gentle touch and see that the hard work pays off when you apply yourself to your passions.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No. There were many times I felt like “what’s going on,” “what am I doing wrong” and things like that, but I never wanted to give up.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes the public version of me is the real me, just with a lil more amps if I’m on stage. I’m a pretty chill, cool and reserved guy, but I know how to turn on the energy vibe to another level that’s still within the cool realm just with a few more amps of electricity to it
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was honest, authentic and truly a helpful active inspiration and resource for people to gain confidence and positivity to do anything they chose to.
