We’re looking forward to introducing you to ShaQuita Beverly. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning ShaQuita, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day starts with 30 minutes of prayer, 30 minutes of self care, and 30 minutes of day planning. 30 minutes of prayers to start the day is essential. Prayer helps me focus, remain calm and keeps me grounded in my purpose. 30 minutes of self care sets the tone for my emotional state for the day. 30 minutes of planning helps to keep me on track. My schedule can be chaotic sometimes, so planning the day out can calm the chaos.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m ShaQuita Beverly also known as 1st Lady Tweet, owner and operator of Concrete Moguls Brand & Organization. Concrete Moguls is the vessel for the unheard voices of Black Entrepreneurs. I provide a space for the unseen and unheard entrepreneurs through print magazines, awards ceremonies and networking events, as well as collaboration initiatives.
Concrete Moguls has been operating since 2021. I began as a vendor selling jewelry, when I realized that there were so many entrepreneurs that struggled with direction, motivation and support, just as I did. I made a promise to myself and those entrepreneurs that were close to me, that I would make sure no other entrepreneur would feel the same way we did. I promised to always support, encourage and celebrate every entrepreneur that came across my path.
After four years of curating awards ceremonies and events, I have honored over 400 Black entrepreneurs from Philadelphia and throughout the United States. My awards ceremony is the largest open entrepreneurs awards in Philadelphia and the tri-state area. There are no categories, no voting and no nominations. The only requirement is that an entrepreneur is actively in business for one year. The Urban Elegance Entrepreneur Awards.
I am proud to launch new and exciting events and magazines for entrepreneurs to showcase their brands and talents. Concrete Moguls Brand Bomb Magazine launched this past May. It is the photo editorial collaboration of Black owned brand, artists, and models.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped me to see myself has been the relationships I have built with the hundreds of entrepreneurs that I have had the pleasure of working with over the last four years. I have been blessed to be able to meet and collaborate with some amazing people. Some of those people have become more than associates, they are family now.
Through each event and our every day lives, they show and tell me how much I have impacted, influenced, and changed their entrepreneurial journey. We shared so much with each other, we’ve become a huge business family.
The confidence and trust that my business family has in me has not only given me strength but has also opened my eyes to the influence and impact of my work.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could speak to my younger self, I would tell me to keep going. Stay close to God!! Don’t let anything or anyone stand in the way of your dreams. Get as much knowledge as you can about the things you want to do. There’s a big, bright future ahead of you and waiting for you to get there. Keep going, you’re going to make it to places beyond your imagination.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’ve been committed to celebrating and recognizing Black business and Black Men in business. It has been a beautiful, long journey and worth every moment. Starting a print magazine from scratch, with no real knowledge of how to do it is very hard work. It can be discouraging at times. In the beginning, there wasn’t much income to put into the magazine or the events. I buckled down in my faith and kept pushing, learning and building. I haven’t reached the top yet, but I’m not stopping until I get there. No matter how long it takes.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I see my fellow entrepreneurs shining, motivated and elevating from the business community we’ve built together. It brings me peace to know that the smiles on their faces are because of something I created for us. My soul is at peace knowing I have made an impact on someone’s life and business.
I want nothing more than to be a positive, motivating force for the people that I’ve come in contact with. To know that my Son can see my work and benefit from my many years of pushing through entrepreneurship, to be able to leave him with a powerful legacy is what brings me the most peace.
