An Inspired Chat with Shari Mocheit of Edgewater

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shari Mocheit. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Shari, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I love this question for so many reasons! Joy is something I think about quite often. I feel so blessed to have family, friends, and a career that I absolutely love and enjoy. I aim to live every day from a place of gratitude, light, and joyful contribution. I truly believe that happiness is a choice we make for ourselves every day. It’s something that comes from within, not external circumstances. Every second we all have the choice to either focus on the positive or negative viewpoint in any situation, circumstance, or problem. I love turning problems into opportunities, and I love consciously living from a place of seeking to spread joy and love rather than expecting external circumstances, things, or people to provide happiness or joy for me. Joy is everywhere if you look for it and create it for yourself. I can’t advocate enough for doing things as often as possible that bring you joy and to spend more time with those who help you create and feel joy!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Shari Mocheit. I am the director, choreographer, and producer for a new headliner performance group called Féroce, which is the French word for “Fierce”. I have been a performer, director, and choreographer working full-time in the entertainment industry for almost 20 years. I really love the creative process and thoroughly enjoyed putting my own headliner shows together a few years back, and after finishing both of them, I had the urge to do more. I’ve always had a passion for anything creative, whether that be performing, singing, dancing, acting, choreographing, directing, design, fashion, photo and video editing, photography, etc. so I realized quickly that I could create something to uplift and inspire others.

I aim to create something bigger than myself. I wanted to create a sense of community, and my main goal was to create more job opportunities for strong, talented, triple threat women in the entertainment industry. Féroce’s mission is to spread joy, love, and light while uplifting our audiences and each other. I wanted to create shows that the cast would love to perform, and that audiences would love to experience.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that others determined your success, popularity, and entire trajectory in life. I realize now that for so much of my youth and adolescence I gave away my power when really it was within me all along. No one gets to decide who you are, only you do.

A good friend of mine once said “Who do you want to be? Act accordingly.” I still live by that. No one will outwork me or get to tell me who I am. That is my choice, and mine alone. You have the same choice for yourself. I own my own actions, reactions, daily habits, and choices.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say to my younger self, “Shari, just relax. It’ll all work out.” I find many people share this sentiment if they were to speak with their younger selves. I wasted so much time being so hard on myself. I eventually learned to live with no regrets, and show myself grace. We all can only do the best we can in any given moment with the information we have at the time. You can’t blame or shame yourself for past mistakes when you had not yet learned the lessons you know now.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
+ Put God first and trust the process.
+ See God in everyone and everything.
+ Laugh as much as humanly possible.
+ Love fiercely.
+ Show up as your highest self, meaning be and do your best. Always.
+ You either win or learn.
+ You get to decide who you want to be, through your actions, words, and choices.
+ Work hard, play harder.
+ Focus on what you can give or contribute.
+ Spread joy and love.
+ You cannot grow until you step outside of your comfort zone.
+ Learn something new every day.
+ Be patient and kind.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I spend time with loved ones, read a good book, eat a fantastic meal, and cuddle my adorable cat, Walter. I also love doing anything creative as previously mentioned. All creative endeavors, whether it’s for a mainstage production or even just working on a painting at home, bring me so much joy. I simply love to create art. I also love collaborating with other artists. I truly believe we are put on this planet to create something out of love, whatever that means for you.
