An Inspired Chat with Sukhmanpreet Singh of Phoenix

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sukhmanpreet Singh. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Sukhmanpreet , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Normal day for me is when I have no fix schedule for my day. So, I can just plan things according to me and keep it smooth.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, My name is Sukhmanpreet Singh you all me know for my business the theturbantyer. The turban is important in Sikh culture as symbol of honor and self respect. As someone who ties his turban religiously daily, it is a form of expression of my faith and commitment to serving humanity.

My inspiration for starting The Turban Tyer came from a desire to share that meaning and create awareness about the turban’s cultural and spiritual significance. I wanted to build a platform where people could not only experience the artistry of turban tying but also learn about its heritage and beauty.

Through this journey, I’ve been fortunate to turn my passion into my profession — offering personalized turban-tying services for weddings, photoshoots, and other special occasions. My goal is to help individuals look their best while staying connected to tradition, culture, and identity.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment that really shaped how I see the world was when I tied a turban for a groom for the very first time.
Seeing his face light up when he looked in the mirror — proud, confident, and connected to his roots — made me realize how powerful our culture truly is. It wasn’t just about styling a turban; it was about helping someone carry their identity with pride on one of the most important days of their life.

That experience changed my perspective. It reminded me that what might seem like a small act to one person can mean the world to another. From that day forward, I’ve looked at my work not just as a service, but as a way to celebrate culture, spread awareness, and help people feel confident in who they are.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time I almost gave up.
When I first started The Turban Tyer, things weren’t easy. There were moments when bookings were slow, and I questioned if people would truly understand the value behind what I was trying to do. I was putting in long hours, traveling, and balancing everything on my own — and at times, it felt overwhelming.

But what kept me going was remembering why I started. Every time I tied a turban and saw that sense of pride on someone’s face, it reminded me that this is bigger than just a business — it’s about representing culture, identity, and tradition. That realization kept me grounded and gave me the strength to push through the hard times.

Now, looking back, I’m glad I never quit — because every challenge shaped me into who I am today and made The Turban Tyer what it is now.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural value I protect at all costs is respect for the turban and what it represents.
The turban isn’t just a piece of cloth — it’s a crown, a symbol of equality, faith, and pride. It reminds us to stand tall, live with integrity, and serve others with humility. No matter how modern the world becomes, I believe it’s important to hold onto that sense of identity and purpose.

Through The Turban Tyer, I try to protect and promote that value — making sure people understand the meaning behind the tradition, not just the look. For me, it’s about keeping that pride alive and passing it on to the next generation with love and authenticity.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely.
For me, the real reward isn’t in the praise — it’s in the purpose. When I tie a turban or help someone feel proud of their roots, that feeling alone is enough. I started The Turban Tyer out of passion, not for recognition. Of course, appreciation feels good, but even if no one ever praised me, I’d still give it my all — because I know why I do it.

It’s about representing my culture with pride, keeping traditions alive, and doing something that carries meaning. True dedication comes from within — not from who’s watching, but from knowing you’re doing what you’re meant to do.
