An Inspired Chat with Suzanna Gasso of Brooklyn

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Suzanna Gasso. Check out our conversation below.

Suzanna, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
In my eight years of practicing aesthetic injectables and transitioning from my experience in the Intensive Care Unit at NYU Hospital, the most surprising thing I’ve learned about my patients is that they can all be the same, yet different.

They may request the same procedures, but how they ask for them varies greatly depending on their culture, age, and gender. Some see their appointment as “me time” and prefer peace and quiet in the procedure room. They want an extended numbing period, a hot cup of tea in hand, and a few uninterrupted moments to scroll through their phone. Others treat their visit as a long-awaited catch-up session, chatting with my staff and me about their dating life, wedding planning, or their children’s latest milestones.

For every patient, I don’t just see myself as a provider; I see myself as a psychologist too. Often, it’s less about the procedure itself and more about the experience. The environment my team and I create offers warmth and comfort, allowing patients to see their appointments as something more meaningful: a place to bring their friends, a safe and quiet space where they can be themselves without judgment, and a setting where they arrive feeling good and leave feeling even better.

That’s what makes the term “medical spa” so fitting. While we perform risky medical procedures with needles, sterile drapes, gloves, and all, we remain a spa at heart. Patient relaxation, care, and satisfaction always come first.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the founder and Head Practitioner of SG Aesthetics, bringing years of experience in the aesthetics industry and 20 years of Intensive Care Unit experience at NYU Langone Health. I have built an Instagram following of over 140K, and I’m best known for my signature procedures, including the Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty and Facial Harmonization. I was also honored to be named one of New York’s Galderma GAIN National Trainers, and one of Allergan Medical Institute’s National Trainers for the United States.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
One day, as I was walking through the halls of NYU Hospital after only being in the United States for a couple of years, I realized that my dreams had come true. I was working in one of the best hospitals in the world, ranked #5 in the U.S. and among the top 20 globally. As an Assistant Nurse Manager in the Intensive Care Unit, I was part of a strong, dedicated medical team handling the most critical cases, some being talked about across the world! I poured myself into that work completely, and when I was ready to make my dream of owning a medical spa come true, I became addicted to seeing it through. I started SG Aesthetics renting a small square of a room, seeing my aesthetics patients after my 12 hour night shift at the hospital.

When I decided to open my own aesthetic practice, life came full circle in the most unexpected way. My son offered me a space in a beautiful new building with huge windows and a beach view. The moment I saw it, I knew it was meant to be. It was the perfect place to work in peace, to grow, and to create a space my patients would love.
When I finally got the keys, I sat down and cried. I felt a mix of excitement, strength, and a touch of fear, knowing the leap I was about to take. It was the beginning of a new chapter, one where I could blend my medical background with my passion for beauty and confidence.

Looking back now, every sleepless night and long shift was worth it. My hard work, dedication, and faith in myself have paid off in ways I could have never imagined.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When I had my first injection complication 4 years in, it was completely unexpected and difficult, both for my patient and for me as a provider. I followed every protocol and did everything right, yet the complication still occurred. Out of caution, I took my patient to the hospital to see a plastic surgeon, who confirmed that I had managed it correctly and told me, “There’s nothing I could do that you haven’t already done.”

I even canceled my vacation and stayed by her side until she fully recovered. It was a powerful learning experience that reminded me that complications can happen even when you do everything right, and that what truly matters is how you respond.

Though I initially felt defeated and questioned continuing my practice, I soon realized these challenges are a normal part of our field. That experience has since allowed me to teach my students—the next generation of injectors—how to prevent, recognize, and manage complications with skill and compassion.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Even before I joined Instagram, I always tried to bring fun and energy to my workplace. In the ICU, I used to prank my coworkers, and we treasured our night shifts together because we grew as a team, not just professionally but personally. It was that personality, my energy, and my ability to connect that helped me earn a promotion to Assistant Nurse Manager. That same personality now shapes the energy of my own office, both online and offline, and it’s something my patients truly notice and cherish.

I often have patients flying in from all over, and many of them tell me during their first appointment that they came because of me, my staff, our energy, personality, atmosphere, and the way we can educate in this industry while still being funny and light-hearted online. Being genuine and transparent is at the core of who I am, so yes, the public version of myself online is absolutely the real me in person.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I always say that I would regret not starting my own business sooner. I wish I had opened an Instagram earlier, taken my aesthetic training sooner, and started building my practice sooner, just so I could enjoy the craft and connect with patients for even longer.

Looking back, I am proud of how far I’ve come, succeeding at a difficult yet rewarding career while balancing being a wife, mother, and daughter to my family, which is my livelihood! But, I know that every day spent waiting was a day I could have been growing, learning, and creating. My practice has grown into something truly special, and I could not be prouder of the amazing team that continues to grow with me.

What started as a dream in a hospital hallway has turned into a reality built on persistence, care, laughter and absolute passion, and I know that if I had started sooner, the trajectory of my success would have been greater because I’d have more time invested.

But that’s not to say I plan on slowing down. If there’s one thing I’ll leave you with it’s this: my dream isn’t over, it’s constantly evolving, and there’s far more in store for the brand of SG Aesthetics!
