An Inspired Chat with Takisha Carter of Connecticut

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Takisha Carter. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Takisha, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would because move with intention, and I bring heart into every space I enter. I listen deeply, I honor people’s stories, and I know how to hold space without rushing the process. Whether I’m creating an experience, teaching, or blending herbs by hand, I treat it as sacred.

I would hire me because I don’t just do the work, I embody it. I can see what others might overlook, and I bring clarity and care to every detail. I work from a place of alignment, not urgency because I trust my intuition as much as my skillset. I make people feel safe enough to bloom and leave things better than I found them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Takisha Carter, founder of Native Nubian Wellness, a space where plant medicine, culture, and conscious care come together. My work is rooted in ancestral wisdom but shaped for modern life. I use herbs, cannabis, food, and ritual to help people reconnect with themselves and the Earth in ways that feel sacred, sensual, and sustainable.

I’ve learned to make medicine from what was available, turning my kitchen into an apothecary and healing into everyday magic. No matter the service or product I offer, the intention is always the same, to nourish the body, honor the spirit, and help folks remember that wellness is their birthright.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’m letting go of the part of me that thought she had to do it all to be worthy.
The one who overdelivered, overextended, and held it all together just to feel safe.

She got me through a lot, but I don’t need to carry that anymore.
These days, I’m choosing softness, slowness, and space to just be.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
It gave me depth, empathy, and the kind of resilience you don’t learn from wins. Suffering stripped me down to the truth. It taught me to listen to my body, my boundaries, and my intuition. It reminded me that strength isn’t about pushing through, but knowing when to pause. Success can be loud. Suffering is quiet. It revealed what actually matters. Suffering gave me my why.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That wellness is neutral, cannabis is suddenly “clean” now, and healing is something you can buy off a shelf. The truth is, a lot of what gets pushed in this space is still rooted in capitalism, not care. The language sounds liberated, but the systems are the same, gatekeeping access, erasing culture, and prioritizing aesthetics over actual transformation. In cannabis, the lie is that the industry is inclusive just because it’s legal. But the very people who were punished for the plant are still being pushed out of the room; if we were ever invited in. Wellness isn’t just about what you consume, it’s about who’s allowed to heal, and how. I’m not here to sell the illusion of wholeness, I’m here to support people in reclaiming it for themselves.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I’m laying a foundation you don’t always see right away. I’m teaching, sharing, and creating with care. A lot of it doesn’t come with instant payoff, but I know it’s gonna mean something down the line. Everything doesn’t have to bloom right away. Some things grow deep before they ever show up on the surface. I trust the timeline, and I trust the soil. This is an ancestral pacing with a vision that stretches way beyond me. Everything I’m building is guided, and aligned with divine timing. Spirit sets the pace, and I just stay ready.
