Tammy Darmel Moore shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Tammy Darmel, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’m definitely walking a path, though it has not always been straight. When I founded Footprints in Africa in 2020, the world was in crisis, yet I knew I was being led by purpose. Over time, the path has revealed itself more clearly, with every challenge shaping me and every milestone confirming the importance of this work. My journey is deeply rooted in faith, and it is that divine connection that allows me to walk the unknown with confidence and fortitude.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tammy Darmel Moore, and I’m the founder of Footprints in Africa, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving communities in Africa with programs that address education, basic necessities, and economic empowerment. I started this work in 2020, during a time of global challenge, because I felt a calling to make a tangible difference. What makes Footprints in Africa unique is our focus on combining immediate support, like scholarships, grants, and micro business loans, with initiatives that celebrate and preserve African culture through our cultural emporium. Everything we do is rooted in faith and guided by a vision of creating lasting impact, empowering communities, and honoring the richness and resilience of Africa.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe the bonds between people are broken by fear, misunderstanding, or a lack of empathy for one another. Pride and distance can weaken relationships and fragment communities. What restores those bonds is connection, open-hearted communication, and acts of service that remind us of our shared humanity. Faith guides me in this because it teaches forgiveness, humility, and the power of reconciliation. In my work with Footprints in Africa, I see this every day. When people come together to support, educate, build, or celebrate culture, bonds are renewed and communities thrive.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust the journey and lean fully into the calling God placed on her life. I would remind her that every challenge is shaping her for a purpose far greater than she can imagine and that her faith and courage will carry her through. I would tell her to listen to her heart, embrace her instincts, and never doubt the impact she is meant to have in the world.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect above all else is respect for heritage and the legacy of our ancestors. I believe that honoring where we come from shapes who we are and guides the path we walk. Through my work with Footprints in Africa, I strive to celebrate African culture in ways that preserve traditions, uplift communities, and empower individuals. Protecting this value is about keeping the wisdom and sacrifices of our ancestors alive, instilling pride and connection in the present, and leaving a meaningful legacy for future generations. Faith guides me in this work because it reminds me that every person and every culture is part of a greater divine plan.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, role, and possessions, what would remain is the impact of the work I have done and the lives I have touched. The relationships built, the communities uplifted, and the seeds of hope planted would continue to speak beyond titles or material things. What remains is faith in a higher purpose and the legacy of service I am called to leave. Ultimately, it is the love, compassion, and positive change shared with others that endures.
