An Inspired Chat with Therese Myers of Tri State

Therese Myers shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Therese, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
I am often tempted to jump right into projects because I am very action-oriented by nature. But over time, I’ve learned the power of listening to my gut. When it tells me to pause, I’ve learned to breathe, reflect, and wait for the right moment. And if my spirit doesn’t align, I’ve learned that it’s okay — and even necessary — to decline. That practice has helped me honor my values and ensure that every “yes” is rooted in purpose.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Therese Myers, and I am the Founder of Yes Girls Create, Inc., a New York–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls ages 8–18 through creativity, mentorship, and community. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to provide girls with the tools, confidence, and experiences they need to dream boldly and lead fearlessly.

What makes Yes Girls Create unique is our commitment to blending creativity with mentorship. Each month, our girls participate in hands-on labs led by accomplished women creatives — from entrepreneurs and artists to innovators and leaders. These experiences not only cultivate their creative spirit but also instill self-esteem, resilience, and lasting friendships.

We are especially excited to kick off our 2025–2026 season this September with the theme: “Oh, the Places She Shall Go When She Dreams.” This year, we’re inviting our girls to expand their imaginations, explore new opportunities, and step into spaces they never thought possible. From STEM to wellness, the arts to leadership, we are committed to ensuring every girl knows that her dreams matter and her future is limitless.

Alongside Yes Girls Create, I also lead Brand New Vue, a platform that focuses on helping women and organizations reimagine their pathways to success through strategy, wellness, and personal growth. At its heart, my work — whether through Brand New Vue or Yes Girls Create — is about building communities where creativity meets purpose, and where dreaming is not just encouraged but celebrated.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was an unsure woman searching for validation from everyone around me. I said yes to people and things that did not honor who I truly was. Over time, I learned that my worth is not defined by others’ approval, but by my own voice, values, and vision.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I once believed that failure meant I didn’t get a chance to do things over. After failing hard, I changed my mind. I’ve learned that each day offers a fresh start — a chance to reset, recalibrate, and yes, even make mistakes again. Failure isn’t final; it’s part of the process of growth and becoming.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to becoming the best version of myself and what I was called to be. I may not get it right everyday but I am committed to being who God has called me to be.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I my time was limited with a number I knew, I most certainly would love harder on the people that meant the most to me. I would birth every idea that has been planted in me for future generations and most definitely I would remove anyone and anything that does not bring me complete joy.
