We’re looking forward to introducing you to Trey Everett. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Trey, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are probably the most boring minutes of my day, hah! I tend of wake up way earlier than I ever intend on getting out of bed, so I will usually read some news, check my socials, and looks at my schedule for the day, all while still laying in bed. Once I do work up the courage to finally leave the sheets, I usually will take some vitamins, drink some water, and immediately make a cup of coffee. The best days of are you can have a little bit of a slower, lazier start.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yes! Hello! My name is Trey Everett and I’m a writer and musician based in New York City. I have had two novels published via Texas-based Indie house, Black Rose Writing, I’m currently developing a handful of new plays and musicals for the stage, including a 29-hour reading of a new play this August, and my band, Moonlight Graham, is set to release a new album on Friday, 6/27/25.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I mean, politics is one of the most disheartening things ever, particularly in America, especially right now. Trump getting re-elected really illuminated just how heartless people can be. To be honest, though, I was grateful for it, because for the longest time I told myself “this isn’t who America is,” but 2024 confirmed that actually, this is exactly who America is. So now I get to change my posture and navigate this country with that clarity. So I’m grateful for that.
Now, NYC just held a Mayoral Primary for the Democratic Party, and Zohran Mamdani won. It was the first time, in a long time, that I actually really felt hope. Hope that maybe we can still turn the tide against moronic authoritarian wannabes. Maybe we, millennials, can actually overcome Billionaire money, and elected a true, progressive leader. Time will tell, but I’m excited to cast my vote for Mamdani in November.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been plenty of times where I’ve felt hopeless, or truly defeated, but my natural inclination is to keep pushing. Keep fighting. Identify what I want, speak it into existence, and then do the work to go find it. So I don’t think I’ve ever really contemplated giving up. Like really giving up. Now, I think my goals and definitions of success have changed over time, and that’s something I look at now with pride. There are plenty of dreams that never came to pass because over time I realized some of them were things I simply just didn’t want anymore. I love that I’ve had the ability to really be honest with myself about what I want, and the tenacity to always continue going after it.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely. When I was younger, I had a tendency of molding myself into whoever the person I was talking to wanted me to be. I was a chameleon, and I thought I was clever. In reality, I was just lying to myself, and everyone in my life about who I really was. Every knew me, but no one really knew ME. As I got older, I realized how exhausting, and insane that was. Now, you get what you see. I try to treat everyone the same, with respect and dignity, and I’m truly an open book. I’ve learned to be okay talking about anything; the good, bad, and embarrassing. Particularly on social media. I know everyone posts their wins, but I really try to also be transparent about where I’m at, and how I’m feeling about certain things.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Stop doing?! If I only had ten years left, there are so many things I’d START doing! And none of them can be printed here, haha!
