An Inspired Chat with Velle Kimble

We recently had the chance to connect with Velle Kimble and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Velle, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
One of my favorite quotes of all time is “The journey has been incredible from its beginning” said by the late great Sidney Poitier. Speaking for myself I must say I’ve come a long way from my humble beginnings as an actor. From countless No’s, long hours on set and the many days of working hard to perfect the craft all of these moments shaped me into the artist that I am today. What I’ve learned over the course of my career thus far is that as long as you stay consistent you will eventually become great at what you do. Being one of the greatest is a milestone that I seek to accomplish as I continue to embark on my journey. No matter what obstacles I face along the way quitting will never be an option for me. If I quit I will never become what I always set out to be. When it’s all said and done I just want to be remembered as one of the greatest actors ever.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Known to most as a Neighborhood Hero. I myself Velle Kimble take honor in putting on for my city every chance that I get. A true pillar of the Windy City of Chicago I AM. Being a Chicago Firefighter & Actor is a blessing that I cherish the most. From saving lives to living a dream that only an actor can imagine I appreciate every moment of it.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Growing up I always knew that I would be destined for success. Perseverance through the grimy city of Chicago is what pushed me to pursue my dreams. It’s not every day you see a young black man make it out of the ghetto to become successtul. Honestly speaking I never would have imagined in a million years that I would become a neighborhood hero. Though I knew at an early age that I had a gift. I knew I had the potential to be something special all it was going to take was for the proper opportunity to present itself. That opportunity just so happen to be one of many little did I know.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Continue to be that kid that you always set out to be. If you could see what your future hold you would be proud.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I live by the saying actions speak louder than words. I’m a firm believer of being real presents through your actions not your words which goes without saying. Who I am to the world means a lot to me. The value of being a great person of character has benefited me strongly. Providing for my family, community and others around me in all positive ways means the upmost to me.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
How much it took for me to be successful. No route to success is an easy route. Michael Jordan once stated “To learn to succeed, you must first learn to fail” which is a fact.
