Ana Archuleta shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Ana, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A typical day for me starts at 6am. I immediately brew myself a cup of coffee and open my laptop to respond to any emails, text messages and appointment approvals. Around 7am, I hop in the shower, do my hair and makeup and head to my studio. My beauty business is my pride and joy that I built from the ground up two years ago. I service my clients from 9-6 and come home to cook, clean, and work on my other project with Chipeta Trading Company. Chipeta Trading Company deals in Native Arts, and annually donates $100,000 per year to Native Jumpstart to help fund high achieving indigenous students. I am always looking for new pieces, studying the craft and history on Native Arts.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey, friends! My name is Ana Archuleta. I am 30 years old and live in Santa Fe, NM. I am a beauty business owner, Native Arts dealer, styilst and model. I started my beauty business 2 years ago and Glam Sessions has been the best thing to ever come to fruition. I specialize in hair, makeup, nails, waxing and facials. My vision for this business was to be a one stop shop for all of your beauty needs. I love to give back so my best friend, who’s a hairstylist, and I are starting this new thing where we pick a special and deserving person for big events (Mother’s Day, prom, Valentine’s Day, etc.) and gift them an experience. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing peoples faces when their services are complete. I am a huge believer in “You look good, you feel good”, so I do my absolute best to make my clients feel their best. My other line of work comes in the form of dealing Native Arts, specifically historic, museum quality pieces, dating from the 1880s-1940s.. I joined Don Siegel, the owner and founder of Chipeta Trading Company around January of this year. Chipeta Trading Company is now another place I call “home”. Our mission at Chipeta Trading is to teach A.R.T. Appreciation, Respect and Tradition. History has shown that native art dealing has been primarily Anglo men selling to other Anglo men, so we are here to change that. Portions of our sales are donated to help fund high achieving indigenous students. Lastly comes modeling. I get to model on the weekends if I don’t have any clients. It’s more of a hobby than a job, since a lot of it is trade, however, it’s my favorite part of the week. I get to let loose and be a creative. Nothing makes me happier than coming up with a concept and set and seeing it come to life!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful had to have been around 5 or 6 years old. I’ve always been independent, opinionated, challenging, and very much had the attitude of “This is my world, you people just live in it”. At that age, I was already delegating, or being a little too “bossy” as my dad likes to call it. I’ve always known who I am, have always dreamt big and worked hard to make those dreams come true. I just want to make little Ana proud.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Give yourself grace. You don’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to fit it. Your authenticity will take you farther than being a “follower” ever could. You’re amazing, babe!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I have 5 besties. That’s it. I keep my circle small. They have all been in my life for at least a decade. They would say that loyalty, love, consideration and truthfulness mean the most to me.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people can look past the glamour and really see me for the person I truly am. Not to say I am not authentic, I just think it’s easy to judge based off of social media, especially considering that I am a boudoir model.
I hope people say that I was kind, giving, loyal, ambitious and never gave up. I want to be remembered as the girl who worked hard and made all of her dreams come true.
