Creating music has typically been a seated process for me, behind a piano and desk. However, after years of this routine, I felt the need for a change—a shift towards better care for both my body and mind. That’s when I turned to running. It took some time, but I’ve become quite hooked on it now. I particularly enjoy running solo amidst nature; it’s a practice that not only clears my mind but also sparks fresh musical compositions and ideas. Naturally, maintaining my health is an ongoing priority for me. Running has seamlessly integrated into my lifestyle, and I aspire to continue this routine well into my older years. Read more>>

I think self-care is something that we can’t overlook! For me the first step is to listen to myself and my body, and figure out what it needs from me on that day. Sometimes a good rest and relaxation day will do the trick! Other times it’s doing something that energizes me, like some yoga or going for a walk in nature. I also really enjoy reading, specifically fiction, and that allows me to jump into another world for a bit, which is one of my favorites ways to disconnect! Read more>>

To be honest self-care was not always something I took seriously or engaged in too often. It wasn’t until my early 30’s that I began to see the importance of self-care. What I discovered during my journey was not only was the practice of self-care beneficial physically and emotionally, but also mentally. One of my most important self-care practices is meditation. In today’s world everything is run by tech. My main job is technical, our social lives are run by our smartphones, our families are kept organized and connected by apps. So, in a time when everything we do is so completely tied to technology, I like to do things that connect me to myself, other people and the Earth. I belly dance, I teach, I’m a plant parent, I am a macrame artist, I keep chickens, and we set time aside once a week to spend time together as a family. Read more>>

As a health coach, I believe in the importance of self care. Taking care of your body and mind should be a priority for all of us. If we don’t take care of ourselves, we can’t plan to care for anyone else. I make exercise part of my daily routine.I always say my exercise is like brushing my teeth…it is just something I do everyday. Whether weight training, doing a class with friends, practicing yoga, or walking the dog, I believe in the value of taking care of your body and mind and building muscle. Self care also involves healthy and clean eating.  Read more>>

Between my website work and my normal full-time job, I work 70 to 80 hours a week. Fortunately, I enjoy *most of those hours! But I do find myself getting bogged down, and trying to keep my head above water. So I make it a priority to go hiking a few days a week. Even when I feel like I “don’t have time” to take a break, I squeeze in an hour to hike a peak near my house in Phoenix. I don’t always feel great at the start, but the endorphins kick in, and I leave with a boost to both my mental and physical health. Read more>>

As a therapist, I have a lot of conversations with clients throughout the day on how they can best take care of themselves, day in and day out. I also think it’s important to practice what you preach. I sandwich my day with self-care to keep me at my best. In the mornings, I do a five minute quiet meditation, then I write down three things I’m grateful for from the day before in my gratitude journal, do some free flow writing that I shred afterwards (a kind of shadow journal), and then end with a walk outside.  Read more>>

Self-care comes before anything in my book. Why? Because how can I pour into others and create when I’m not okay? For self-care I like to do different body care routines. Whether that be a face mask or trying out the latest and trendiest self-care products. Sometimes I even craft up a cocktail with a recipe from scratch. These routines help me even out my aurora and that’s when I am the most affective. Lately, I’ve also gotten back into reading. I’ve noticed it takes me to a different place that I can’t quite explain. Read more>>

There’s no doubt about it, self-care is the greatest gift you can give yourself. I’m going to be honest, I used to think that self-care is a luxury, but I’ve come to learn that it’s actually a necessity.
