We’re looking forward to introducing you to Bryan Rowe. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Bryan, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My two year old daughter is definitely the highlight of my life right now. It is so fun to see her make discoveries in every aspect of life and see her brain start putting puzzle pieces together to make sense of her world. Sometimes it can be hard to focus on work when it’s so fun to just hang out with her.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Photography has weaved a thread through my whole life and more recently I’ve been specializing in portraits and products. I genuinely love shooting most kinds of photography although there is usually a through line with my compositions which ultimately ends up being quite minimalist. I am a perfectionist by heart so I’m always striving to go the extra mile to make an image really shine (this is well suited to product work).
Recently I’ve been focusing on some personal work on a project called the Nostalgia Series. The idea behind the work is to document nostalgic items from my youth (Hot Wheels, Lego, Rubik’s Cubes, Swiss Army Knife’s etc.) in a very clean way but printing them extra large so that you can see all the wear and tear and the “life” these products have lived in macro detail.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
When I was a young teenager I was doing a half baked job on washing the car (which I clearly didn’t want to do) and my stepfather told me “If you’re going to do a job, do it properly” and that has stuck with me ever since.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
It would be very simple advice to build financial freedom to take the pressure off being bound to money. I would say “No matter what you are earning from your job put at least 10% of it in long term stocks (S&P etc.) every paycheck and don’t ever miss a payment or touch that money”. This kind of security to fall back on provides a lot of freedom to be able to be creative with one’s life a little further down the line.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say that maintaining friendships is very important to me. Friends and friendships are the backbone of my life.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when out in nature. As cliche as it may sound, it seems like as humans we create a lot of complexity in our lives (and drama). Nature is so simple…wind blows, stream flows, birds chirp. Simple.
